Rudolf and Frosty!!!

It was big when SUPERMAN and SPIDERMAN met that first time back in the 70s (I still have me giant comicbook)...and it will be great when all these Marvel characters crossover in the Avengers movie...

But no crossover matches the greatest crossover of all time...RUDOLPH and FROSTY: CHRISTMAS IN JULY!!!

My son is old enough to get into 'build' ups of a movie or show. So last week we watched Rudolf (the best xmas show of all time) and Frosty. We watched Frosty returns, Rudolphs Happy New Year...and you know me, dear old dad, I've been pumping up the big crossover...and we watched it last night...

Its a pretty whacky story; an evil old wizard, Winterbolt, has been in a deep sleep for thousands of years. He awakes and decides to ruin Rudolph's good name so as to defeat Santa...I wont say anymore so as not to ruin your fun...

I think this was the last of those old Rankin/Bass puppet XMAS shows. For what they are? They are still entertaining. From SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN to Rudolf ones, good innocent fun for all..

Avoid the awful CGI version of Rudolf...its terrible.

You really get to see every last character up to 1980, and Mickey Rooney does Santa's voice to boot, even calling Mrs. C 'Jessica'. Winterbolt does seem a retread of Winter Warlock, and it would have been nice if say the goddess had been an angel using the Star Of Bethelhem's light to give Rudolph his powers, but those are nits. My only RL nit is the lack of a release of a Frosty figure as seen in this special.

'Misfit Toys' does feature bad CGI, but by 'Miser Brothers' they seem to have learned their lesson.

In Rudolph/Frosty, they retell Rudolphs origin, but its not the same as from the original show. Why didn't they just use scenes from that old show to retell it? One can only wonder..

Paul Soles, who voice Hermie the dentist in the first Rudolph, voiced Spiderman in the 60s cartoon..I didn't know that until today. WIKI!!!!

IIRC, the original show gave no explanation for Rudolph's abilities.

Dasher : Well, have you tried *not* being a red-nosed reindeer?

"Rudolph, they will never truly accept you. Join with me, and others with unique gifts. Leave the reindeer without abilities behind in the evolutionary dust."

R : "Who are you?"

"Call me...Magneto!"

Dear god, Gojirob is at the mash-up game again....my eyes, they burn! ;)
