Round 2 Discovery

seigezunt

Vice Admiral
Admiral
I posted this in the Fan Art forum, but for anyone who might be interested who doesn't frequent that forum, Round 2 is putting out Disco models now, and I will have the NCC-1031 in my mitts by the weekend. They also will be making a Shenzhou and the Disco Enterprise, out this summer. More pix coming.

At 1:2500 scale, the Disco is about 11 inches long.

I forget, are they also making the models in larger scales than 1/2500?

There's not been a lot of news, but from what I read here, it would seem to indicate they were either going to come out with a larger scale Disco next, or put out the Shenzhou and Enterprise in 1/2500 next. As they've since released box art for the shenzhou and CultTvman is taking reservations on the Shenzhou and Enterprise, I'm guessing we won't be seeing the bigger Disco yet.

Such a weird, but unique looking ship.

I still hate the cardboard-box like belly, and the negative space in the saucer. Not the idea, but the execution - these tiny, spindly connection hallways simply don't mesh with the otherwise extremely robust and brutalistic design. (And, yeah, she's waaay to big for only a crew of "136" people - she got, like, more than double the internal volume of the Enterprise!)

But I've come to appreciate the design as a whole much more.

Probably because I genuinely enjoyed season 2 (except again for that ending). And the one thing I really like about the design is how unique it is. Don't get me wrong - I think the Shenzhou is overall a more cohesive design. But this one has by far more personality.

I'm still not a fan of the design - but especially after we've seen the DISCO-Enterprise so much - I've come to really like the weird character of this ship so much more than the "safe" redesign of the E.

I like it... but I'm not gonna lie: I think is too small and must be a nightmare try to light it up from inside.

I posted a video in the fan art forum that makes it look a little easier.

But, yes, I'd prefer a larger scale. Though at $28 for this scale alone, I'm not sure if it would be in my budget.

Just an update ... I'm hopefully starting work on this, and just did a test fit to see how the pieces go together. I will of course be sanding parts, painting, and all that stuff, but I'm impressed with how, if someone were just to snap it together out of the box, it looks pretty decent on its own.

Interesting copper-colored parts as depicted on the packaging. I didn't really notice the hue to that degree in the show.
