Roswell: Just watched all three seasons on Netflix

Endgame

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Is there a section for "Roswell" on The Trek BBS? I just watched all three seasons and it was cool. I wonder if there shall ever be a new Roswell movie made. I even enjoyed parts where plausibility may have been stretched to allow the characters to have their moments of teenage angst. It seems that the genre of science fiction has about run its course for possible stories. But I am sure there are many stories and topics out there currently which I have not read and which are very original. Few readers can stay on top of the diversity which is out there. A new Roswell movie might need entirely new cast and a new writing of the story. That would be challenging to do well. I guess there are many paranormal gifted youth shows in the current offerings.

Considering it was a low-rated tv show that was cancelled for low ratings 12 years ago... I wouldn't hold my breath for a continuation. :)

I enjoyed it at the time . . . and am still trying to cope with the fact that Shiri Appleby played the mom of a teenager in her last TV series.

And somehow I doubt that they could get Kathryn Heigl back these days . . . :)

Funny, I've never seen it offered on Netflix and most of the shows I watch are sci fi. They need to do a little better with their recommendations.

Roswell aired from when I was in 8th grade to 10th grade, so I was really into it the first two years, but the quality seriously diminished in the 3rd. I wouldn't be opposed to rewatching it as I'm sure I missed some episodes. There were some cast members who went on to be big TV stars: Katherine Heigl, Shiri Appleby, Emilie de Ravin, Julie Benz, Colin Hanks, Adam Rodriguez.

That's right. I forgot that Julie Benz was around the first couple of seasons . . ..

I devoured the books in middle and high school, and watch all three seasons on DVD when they hit stores. I like the show for various reasons, mostly for the Sheriff-- but the premise with the faraway civil war was just silly, silly. The books were a HELLUVA lot better thought out, because they had three distinct villains, all of whom succeeded the other, but not in a haphazard way: they'd obviously been planned for. The aliens' origin was more sympathetic (the offspring of scientists on a Starfeet-esque survey mission, surviving an accident), and the powers were more considered, too. The ONLY thing the shows did better was the character of the Sheriff. In the books he is Walking, Talking, Evil, but in the shows -- played by WILLIAM SADLER, hello! -- he's a nice guy on the wrong side at first. His son Kyle is also redeemed. I do enjoy the show, I just think of it as a Different Thing than the books. Plus, their Liz isn't even latina.

It's perhaps worth clarifying that there were two different lines of books.

There were the original ROSWELL HIGH books that inspired the TV series. And, inevitably, there was a separate line of tie-in novels based on the TV series.

(And, yes, I wrote one of the latter books.)

Believe it or not, my first exposure to the tv show WAS your book! I bought it thinking it was a followup to Metz's book -- the use of the actors didn't throw me, because the original series switched to using covers with the TV actors midway through. I'd never watched the show, so I found mention of the Skins completely mysterious, and one of Alex's Czechoslovakian jokes was lost on me. I've held on to the book after all these years, though, so evidently I enjoyed it. As I recall it involved a trip to Carlsbad Caverns and Liz spotting one of the men who shot her, with a later scene involving a motel stakeout.

That's the book all right. Glad you liked it!

I rewatched Roswell a short time ago having only vague memories of it (mostly the theme tune) and liked it - it was definitely stronger in the first two seasons but broadly it is a lot better than I (just about) remembered it being!
