Ronan and Beverly’s Nana on Sub Rosa

I'm actually a little amazed that every time the statement "The worst Trek episode ever is 'Spock's Brain'" is uttered, it isn't immediately followed by "Or...maybe 'Sub Rosa.'" :D

Those episodes are nothing. And The Children Shall Lead and The Alternative Factor are the absolute worst. Worst of TNG is probably Code of Honor or The Outrageous Okona. Sub Rosa and Spock's Brain are so absurd that they're entertaining. There is nothing redeemable in the four I mentioned.

I must submit "The Empath" as one of the worst too. That one is really hard work.

I doubt that the anaphasic energy was part of her cause of death. The intensity of his energy seemed to be under his control, he used a lethal dose for Quint, and a lower dosage for the Howard women. He also wouldn't have had a motive, he needed them alive, they were no good to him dead.

Yeah, I know that Ronan seemed to be able to control the dosage. I was just wondering if even at its lowest dosage the anaphasic energy could take years off of someone's life.

Agree with "And The Children Shall Lead". Horrid horrid episode. Spock's Brain for me was actually unintentionally comical ("brain and brain!! what is brain!?!?). McCoy had some good lines as usual "Jim, it's so simple! a child could do it!".

Probably the worst TOS episode to me was Catspaw. Argh, that was so low quality.

TNG wise? hmm, there's a few. I can't sit thru an episode of Angel One aka the butch Amazonian women of space, 80's style!

I can't really sit thru "Violations" either, mostly because it's so hard to believe no one would connect Troi's new unstable personality with the coincidental arrival of a telepathic alien

Most Troi centered episodes were lame-oh! I feel bad for Marina Sirtis.

Sub Rosa has 2 things going for it. 1. An old Scottish stereotype "dae not lait da kandal!!!" lol Scotty would have been proud

And 2. Beverly having an orgasm  That singlehandedly saves the episode from being unwatchable :)

Beverly masturbating
Not the best way to say an episode is awful, really not.
:whistle::whistle:

:mallory:

Is that S7 Mrs. Troi episode?

The Empath is The Cage with a mime instead of Vina, it's not so bad.

You know, I remember liking the musical score to that one quite a bit. The episode itself was pretty bad. Not sure what the theme of it was.

The whole episode is best forgotten...

This. :techman: It's just an awful episode.

At least the horrible TOS episodes have the campyness factor involved that make them somewhat bearable to watch. The same can be said for the terrible parts of early TNG. Sub-Rosa on the other hand is a steaming pile of dreck and is the only TNG episode I consistently skip over. I never knew about the Anne Rice thing either, it all makes total sense now. She's like the Danielle Steel of vampire stories which completely explains why this episode is so god awful, boring, and just plain wrong. I would rather watch Spock's Brain/Angel One/Let He Who Is Without Sin/Threshold/These Are The Voyages Marathon than watch Sub Rosa one more time...

As bad as 'Code of Honor' is -- and it's BAD -- I'm afraid I must disagee. 'Code of Honor' and 'Outrageous Okona' have at least got some entertainment, even if only in a somewhat campy, hyper-unreal way. 'Spock's Brain' falls into this category too. But 'Sub Rosa'... is an episode I just can't grok. I agree that its premise is absurd, but not absurd enough to be entertaining. 'Sub Rosa' is the Star Trek equivalent of listening to nails being scraped down a chalkboard for an hour. Both it and 'Code of Honor' are cringeworthy, but only *one* of them is a tedious journey into mediocrity. And it ain't 'Code of Honor'.

I think Memory Alpha sums it up pretty well, under the "Reception" category: "The production staff noted that fan response to the episode was split along gender lines, with men hating "Sub Rosa" and women loving it. (Captains' Logs: The Unauthorized Complete Trek Voyages)"

I have all the season sets, but of the five STNG keeper episodes in my TiVo, this is one of them. :D

I like that it ties in way back to "Arsenal of Freedom," when Bev is trying to remember what herbal remedies her grandmother might have used.

Episodes like this are the kind that make me really wonder just what the hell they were doing when they were writing this episode. I know it's Season 7 and we ran out of ideas but, come on.
