Romulans: Schism Issue 3 is out.

Issue 3 of John Byrne's Star Trek: Romulans: Schism came out yesterday, though, apparently, some stores haven't gotten their copies yet.

It's a very nice wrap-up to the three issue miniseries. John Byrne's Star Trek work has utterly blown me away, and this is no exception. He seems to be channeling Matt Jeffries in terms of design, while still drawing in what is immediately identifiable as his own style. His work is probably the closest I've felt that a comic has ever come to really capturing the look and feel of TOS.

I read Byrne's first Romulans story, but missed Hollow Crown, which came between the first story and Schism, but that was no impediment to understanding and enjoying this miniseries, so if you curious, don't let that stop you. That said, early next year will see a trade paperback collection of all Byrne's Romulans stories with an original adaptation of "Balance of Terror" that ought to be pretty neat. Although I have all three issues of Schism, I definitely plan to "double dip" and pick up the trade paperback.

Agreed that this was a great series by Byrne. Maybe it's just because I'm a writer/editor, but I was annoyed by the number of typographical errors in the issue. "You" instead of "your" and like that. I hope they fix those before the trade paperback...

Yeah, Issue 3 was definitely typo heavy, and I'm definitely hoping that's addressed before the collection.

I'm sure it will be. It doesn't come out in TPB until February, and will include both Schism, The Hollow Crown and a new story about "The Enterprise Incident" from the Romulans POV.

Schism felt like the bookend to his Romulan and Number One stories. I hope this doesn't mean he's finished working on Trek comics or these characters (particularly "the Commodore," who deserves her own ongoing series).

I, too, plan on buying the trade next year -- even though I bought all of the original issues. I think that Byrne's overall storyline will work well in one, solid volume. Though the extra story material sure doesn't hurt matters.
