Romulan Women

The besotted Commander from "The Enterprise Incident" was likely executed for allowing Kirk and Spock to make away with the cloaking device.

She doesn't strike me as the type who would allow that to happen. She'd find some way to skate on any charges the Romulan government might try to levy against her. Especially if she had powerful friends or family.

(Iindeed, in the current novelverse, I think there's one bit where she escapes just such an execution because she is a blood relative of the Emperor.)

In the TOS episode is she not a guest of the Federation? I do not recall them sending her back.

They probably would have done it eventually. I don't see why the Federation would keep her - she's more useful if she can be extradited back to Romulus. Who knows what the Federation could get in return - diplomatic concessions, prisoner exchange, any number of things. It's just the nature of realpolitik.

I mean, I highly doubt that Starfleet could have got any useful intelligence from her, because obviously she's never going to talk...

Isn't the Federation still technically at war with Romulus? If not, it's not like the Romulans maintained normal diplomatic relations. Even if Romulus' sought the return of their citizen, the Federation needn't oblige, especially if the captain sought asylum. At least not right away. She needn't have intelligence value. She is, simply by being wanted, a bargaining chip for the Feds to play as they choose. Until that day, she's a propaganda coup.

If theyre still at war, the Feds are likely well within their rights to tell the Romulans to shove their repatriation request where Remus doesn't shine.

The Romulans in BOT were testing the resolve of the Federation to see if they could withstand a new war with their Empire so the two races were not at war at that time and no further attacks occurred in the TOS era! I should doubt that the Romulans and the Klingons had any knowledge of each other at that time either or they would have gained that information from their allies! :rommie:

Why would the Romulans want to trick Kirk into stealing the cloak off them, for them?

To stop a costly war, that would force them to enslave half the alpha quadrant, an even more costlier peace.
