Im currently reading the new RW book and am confused about Trip?

1. Do these books take place after ENT's last episode?

2. The new Trek mag said that Pocket rewrote the lady episode of ENT in Novel form what did they do to fix it?

If you're curious, read The Good That Men Do. Essentially, the revelation is that the holoprogram Riker plays in "These Are the Voyages" is inaccurate.

Yes. Trip's death was staged so that he would be able to infiltrate the Romulans (after appropriate alterations).

...Although even those strike me as rather implausible. I can't easily see Riker doing these holo-forays in the middle of "The Pegasus", or Troi encouraging him to do this, or Riker sharing certain things with Troi before sharing them with Picard.

I'm not sure that keeping A and retconning B really was worth it all. In the episode, Trip only dies in 2161 or so. Plenty of time for him to make an impact on the Romulan War in the novels, which go with the good old idea of the War taking place about 2155-2160'ish.

IIRC, CBS Licensing was fine with the retconning of the holodeck elements, since it was a computer program that seemingly had errors in it. The Riker/Troi stuff was judged to be canonical, and the tie-in novels are supposed to adhere to canon.

Retconning the ENT scenes maximised the storytelling prospects for an ongoing story arc in the novels.

Let's put it this way: If you don't read The Good That Men Do, Kobayahi Maru and The Romulan War: Beneath the Raptor's Wing first, you're not going to understand almost everything in the new book, The Romulan War: To Brave the Storm. It would be kind of like watching TNG's The Best of Both Worlds, Part II without first seeing Part I and Q Who? Do yourself a favor and read them in the right order and you'll be glad that you did.

The Good that men do is the start of the Relaunch book series and Kobayashi maru continues where TGTMD leaves of with the cliff hanger ending they comtinue where each novels ends.and it would be confusing to read the last book in the series if you don't the other books first.Especially Beneath The Raptor's wing.
