romulan theory

Ralph O Ward III

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
my guess is that romulan attack Mars, believing that the rescue fleet is an invasion force, federation withdraw its offer for help afterward. then romulus gets destroyed by the supernova a year later with spock and Picard being the only ones trying to help them.

I was thinking the Romulans attack Mars as revengeance for the destruction of Romulus.

The first teaser says Picard commanded the biggest rescue fleet in history, which implies it wasn't mistaken for an invasion fleet and destroyed. The tragedy came after.

This is actually how i think it will go down aswell. It also seems to be the route the countdown comic is taking. If this is the case I would be very happy with this angle,

Why wouldn’t Romulans then attack Earth directly? If they made it all the way to Sol system, why settle for Mars when Earth is right there for the attacking?

Maybe the Romulans were actually attacking the Utopia Planitia Shipyards AT Mars and their goal was to get more BORG stuff Star Fleet had stored there?

After all, attacking one of Star Fleets main shipyards would be a much more desirable target than the planet itself.

they have to get past the mars defense perimeter before they can get to earth
The solar system is 122 AU in diameter, which is roughly 0.002 light years. Anyone coming to attack ANY planet in our solar system from light years away with warp drive, only had to worry about defenses around the planet they are attacking since they can drop from warp anywhere (I know Star Trek hasn’t been consistent with showing that... ever).

Because sci-fi writers have no idea how orbits work.
There's an interesting thought, what kind of Defense Perimeter would one have to set up to defend a Solar System?
The Borg got past it again in FC, and then the Breen got past it on DS9. Or maybe they just went to Earth on a trajectory that took them nowhere near Mars?
Mars Orbit Spherical Defense Perimeter Under Utopia Planitia Control At Mars is too long. It's a ton of sentry pods surrounding the inner planets roughly along Mars's orbit.

Warp inside a solar system is considered very dangerous. Perhaps the pods can intercept intruders at Warp as well...

You mean those three ships that went after the Borg cube? One tough defense perimeter that.
Since it was a very short scene, they might have been just the last wave of several.

If Mars is a strategic shipbuilding/repair site...

Mars might have the most advanced shipyards. They're also building the new fleet for the evacuations, and if the Romulans saw that as an invasion fleet instead, they wanna target the facility that built this fleet.
In Unification, the Romulans used the pretense of a peace mission to send an invasion fleet in stolen Vulcan ships. This is their way, so they wouldn't trust Starfleet, cause if the situation was reversed, they would have invaded. Garak was right: The Romulans didn't believe the Dominion's innocence, cause an invasion is precisely what they would have done in their place.

I have just posted a video over on my channel (I wont link it as thats kinda self-promotion) echoing this same theory. I think they are going to use holo-emitter tech to appear like federation fighters and attack Mars...they used that tech back in Enterprise S4, and this screenshot makes it look like there are 2 different ship designs present at the same time.

Why would they do that?

(And that screencap you posted only shows the second ship mostly obscured by the wing of the ship in front of it. They’re the exact same type of ship.)

This is a possible spoiler, but according to the new countdown comics there are those that view the Starfleet rescue armada as an invasion fleet. So the theory is they are being paranoid and attack the fleet/station.

Check out my video when you have the chance...it has the theory in-depth and includes all of the screenshots.
