News Romijn: Back As Number One?

Perhaps the S31 show will be set later in the timeline, like when Kirk is captain of Enterprise. Georgiou could return to any point in the timeline, and maybe Una ends up in S31 after her time on Enterprise.

I hope Section 31 is set right after Enterprise, during the founding of the Federation or the Romulan War.

I'd rather Section 31 was set in the Picard time frame so Georgiou can run across Garak and Intendant Kira... but that's never going to happen.

The Section 31 show was first announced during Discovery's second season, so it was naturally assumed that it would be in the 23rd century because Georgiou was in the 23rd century. Then she flew off into the future and some speculated that it might be set there, but no answers came from production.

Since they developed all these cool toys for Sec 31, and ended with Tyler in charge, my guess is that the show will pick off in the 23rd century, and Georgiou will return somehow, with or without the rest of the Discovery crew.

If Georgiou is coming back, at least, it's natural to assume that other assets of the 23rd century will be seen in the 3rd season. Tyler, of course, as a main character, but Pike's Enterprise has cemented its place as Discovery's tether to this era, and Pike, Spock, and Una, as integral characters therein. All three Discovery-era Short Treks this year featured the Enterprise in some manner.

I'd be very surprised if we didn't have multiple scenes across multiple episodes set in the 2250s dealing with the fallout of Discovery's disappearance/classification and eventually Georgiou's (at least) reappearance.

Why wouldn’t they start setting more shows in the future setting?

I personally reckon they don’t actually reach their final destination, they’re thrown off like 50 years before, purposely by Burnham’s mother, to save the Federation from totally dying out. Then in the final S3 episode they jump forward that 50 years and everything has changed to something similar to what we know Star Trek as, and that’s the new default setting for everything.

Maybe the Temporal Agents (such as Daniels) is actually what S31 ends up as. Easy way to get Georgiou back to 23rd Century, or Tyler to wherever Discovery ends up.

because they DON'T want to go back to Berman/Braga style 'cookie-cutter' Star Trek where the only thing really different is the show title.

I know this passes for common knowledge in some parts around here, but TNG & DS9 were totally different shows. As were DS9 & Voyager.

DS9 honestly started out just like TNG. It took three seasons until they got the Defiant; and started doing more serialized storytelling.

VOY HAD an interesting premise, which was pretty much totally abandoned by its third episode; and it pretty much became TNG rehashed after that.
