Rogue One (2016) [SW Anthology Series)

^It's a theory that's been kicked about. One of about seven billion since TFA came out and AKAIK there's no basis for it beyond "she's a woman in a Star Wars movie and-also-they-look-a-little-alike!?!"
I wouldn't be shocked if it turns out to be true, but at the same time I don't put much stock in it.

It's worth remembering that JJ Abrams loves his mystery boxes more than he loves the actual mystery inside. To the point where it seems most of the time that even he has no idea what the mystery could me, he just enjoys decorating the box with randomly cryptic clues with no coherent idea of what it all means or what it could lead too.
Personally I suspect that the LFSG intentionally made sure it was vague because they themselves hadn't decided how things should play out. Perhaps wisely waiting to see what audiences responded too before making up their minds which story threads to tug on.
That sounds way more complicated than it needed to be. To me, it's in the same way of Anakin's virgin birth, which struck me as a bit odd and unnecessary.

As for the theory, I'll just add it to the stack.

That or tools. We see many people with those sorts of things sticking out of pockets like pencils in a pocket protector.

Biggs actually was part of the Empire for a brief time-it's kind of clear in the deleted scenes, and some other dialogue in the final movie that he enrolled in the Imperial academy, but jumped ship to the alliance shortly after saying goodbye to Luke (in the deleted scenes).

Yeah, and using stolen Imperial technology is also pretty much implied-a lot of the OT Rebel ships have ancestors in the prequels and Clone Wars used by the Republic/Early Empire-The ARC 170/X-wing, The Y-wings in the OT are basically stripped down Clone Wars versions....Jedi starfighter/A-wing, the Blockade Runner lookalikes from TPM and ROTS (Although it's a bit unclear if the one in ROTS is the same ship), alongside the more Imperialish looking Star Destroyers and ROTS style Jedi starfighters from ROTS. Although the Mon Calamari ships in ROTJ more closely resemble the seperatist ships seen in Revenge of the Sith. The sequel trilogy A-wing even seems to nod at this connection, as it's sporting the Jedi starfighter color scheme. So basically a lot of what the Rebels use is pretty much stuff intended for the Empire.

It also used to be canon that the Escort/Medical Frigates were former Imperial ships as well, but I think that's gone now.

According to the new Canon, the Nebulon-B's are manufactured by Kuat Drive Yards, so it is possible that some may have been in use with the Empire, it just hasn't been established yet. Or they could be older designs.

Though the source of that was Ultimate Star Wars, a lot of stuff in that book was just ripped directly from the EU, I think some of it has been retconned already? Not sure.

Also from the new Canon, the A-Wings were manufactured by the same company that made the Jedi Starfighter, which is also Kuat.

The one in ROTS is the Sundered Heart/Tantive III, it has been given 2 names.

The Tantive IV was in Clone Wars, with it's colour scheme from ANH. Both ships are CR-90s

This has probably been asked a hundred times but I don't often really look in this forum. Has a (rough) date been established for when Rogue One is set? Like how many years before ANH?
Thanks, just curious

More like weeks at most, since this involves the Death Star becoming fully operational and about to be tested before heading on to destroy Alderan.

One report circulated that it would end ten minutes before ANH begins.

Is that an issue? Why wouldn't the Rebellion use similar tech?
There is even a picture of Biggs that asks the question if he has them.
Yeah, I think some people are persisting in the notion that the Alliance would somehow use different technology than the Empire. A notion born I think of the old WEG RPGs that for game mechanics reasons, wrote the two factions as essentially separate civilisations, which just doesn't make sense from a story point of view.

Almost everyone in the rebellion is technically a citizen of the Empire (yes, even Luke.) That means while there's certainly a number of Clone War veterans and former militia fighters in it's ranks, most of those that joined the rebellion with combat experience or training below a certain age received such from the Empire.

And yeah, why wouldn't Bail be wearing Imperial ID cylinders? He's a government official on a major Imperial world and presumably spends a lot of time of Coruscant.

As for what's on Bigg's arm: the old visual dictionary has those down as "data cylinders". Possibly for storing mission data, IFF & comms encryption keys, targeting profiles and even backup system programs in case the flight and/or targeting computer memory is damaged.

Anyone got their tickets yet? They've been available for 1.5 hours now in North America and they're selling fast.

Yes. on Friday (or Saturday, but I can't remember when) for 16th December at the local imax here in Dublin - We're seeing the 20:30hrs showing, I would like to go to an earlier showing, but work commitments and all for the two of us.

I think ending the film with them transmitting the information to the Tantive IV which then engages it's hyperdrive a nice tie in. Of course this implies Vader shows up right after that and blasts them away, then follows the Corvette...

I was interested that so many of the commenters are complaining that there is a female protagonist. Crybabies are whining that feminists are shoving propaganda down their throats and such. Have others seen a lot of complaining like that?
Sadly, yes, but not actually related to this movie. Last year, there was an article about a group calling themselves "Concerned Citizens" complaining about TFA not having any white men in lead roles, claiming it was just the latest in the many downwards spirals related to the movie ever since Disney handed it over to the "n****er-loving Jew" (presumably Abrams).
