Rogue One (2016) [SW Anthology Series)

Well there were a bunch of younger Han Solo stories back in the day. Two trilogies worth of them.

It was actually a Solo trilogy and a Lando trilogy... :D

There are two Solo trilogies - The Han Solo Triology by A.C. Cripsin, and The Han Solo Adventures by Brian Daley, as well as The Adventures of Lando Calrissian by L. Neil Smith.

Rogue one looks fairly racist to me - where are the blue people or hairy people or people with a nose shaped like a flaccid penis?

ETA: Ninja'd. Or should I say Jedi'd?

Interesting. If I was shown this cold, without context I wouldn't instantly have pegged it as being from a Star Wars movie. My first impression was that it looked like the cast of some mid-budget sci-fi TV show. The kind that spends half the time running around the woods outside of Vancouver.

Like the aesthetic though. There's something of a WWII-era partisan forces vibe about it., which may very well be the point.

Random observations:-

*Dusty/viney stonework and slanty walls. Yavin IV?

*The bloke sat down on the left with the goggles (their tech specialist?) appears to be wearing fatigues with an Imperial insignia on the shoulder (or an Old Republic symbol, they're surprisingly similar.)

*Pod racer engines? Or are those supposed to be off of an X-Wing & Y-Wing respectively?

*The blind (or Arkanian?) person seems to be holding a simple staff (tipped with some metal device--force pike maybe?) but otherwise well armed with a bandoleer and what looks like a mandalorian style wrist gauntlet. His wardrobe looks very robe like, almost like a samurai but I'm not saying that just because he's played by an Asian. Former Jedi perhaps?

*I'm guessing the guy behind him is their heavy weapons specialist.

*The female character (which I'm assuming is our protagonist/leader) looks like she's meant to evoke Han Solo's wardrobe with the bomber jacket, low slung gun belt. A Corellian perhaps? Or just a spacer by trade? The metal cylinder in her breast pocket may indicate that she's an officer (at least I think that's what those things mean.)

That's about all I can glean for now. So what do we think the odds are that none of these character will survive all the way to the end credits? ;)

I imagine they'll be added in post production, or when the SFX make-up folks are done building them. ;)

In all seriousness though this did occur to me too. One of the distinguishing features of the Alliance as depicted in RotJ was that it was made up of many (three counts as many, right?) alien species. Perhaps this early in the Alliance, most of the rank and file were from systems like Alderaan, Naboo and a few dozen human (ethnically) dominated outer-rim worlds. Plus a healthy dose of Imperial military defectors. And it wouldn't be until after the Death Star attack that they were able to mobilise and consolidate the various militias, freedom fighters and rebel cells into a cohesive force. Indeed, the fleet that assembled near Sullest may have been the first time the Alliance was ever fully assembled.

Maybe that could have been the genesis for the long discussed Star wars live action tv show?

What makes you say Donnie Yen's character is blind? His eyes look fine to me, or were more character details announced at D23.

His eyes look either 'whited out' or very, very pale in that photo.

Alan Tudyk has been announced as one of the motion capture aliens. pretty appropriate and very cool for this Firefly-esque looking line-up.

Just as long as he's not a CG T-Rex chilling out on the dashboard of their ship.

So is that cast photo supposed to be on Yavin? For some reason, that's what I keep thinking when I look at those stone walls behind them.

If one wants to infiltrate an Imperial base without looking suspicious, you will need a more or less Human crew, as the majority of Imperials you will have to impersonate are Humans.

Wow, that's even more dark and grim looking than I was expecting. Makes me wonder just how dark they're willing to go with this movie, given that it still needs to appeal to a pretty wide audience.

Although I imagine it'll still have plenty of aliens and droids and other fantastic visuals to balance it out.

Oh, and Felicity Jones is looking pretty badass in that outfit too.
