I guess the character of Bria Tharen, who was part of a mission to retrieve the Death Star plans in an EU novel, has been made obsolete. Damn shame.


It's a pity that the first cast of characters portrayed by a multi-cultural cast ended up as a one shot deal. Pity.

I think having a character directly connected with Han Solo not only being a rebel, but involved in that specific operation was always a little too much of a coincidence. As for the cast: just from the context of ANH's opening crawl and what is said by the likes of Vader & Leia I think most fans knew going in what the score would be. Honestly it would feel a little cheep if they didn't go there.

The EU in general has been made obsolete.

Generally, though the Lucas Story Group is using parts of it to inform new stories. So elements of the old EU slip into the new Canon. Especially designs of things since it is a waste to not use some of the stuff, since Lucasfilm or one of its companies paid for it already.

I doubt if that's the plan and it would seem like a waste to use her in the Solo movie instead of putting Sana Starros into live action.
I suspect the option for a second movie is just LF hedging their bets. On the off chance they ever want to bring the character back at some point, in some capacity. I don't think there's a specific plan in place though, at least not yet.

Yes I know, she's almost certainly dead and I'm 99.99% sure that's the case...however we never actually saw her die, let alone a body. So there's the teeny-tiniest sliver of a chance that they could somehow have her survive the blast wave and ensuing tsunami after all.

There is nothing in the opening scroll for "A New Hope" that gave hints to main characters' fates. And which Leia/Vader conversation were you referring to?

Also, according to "A New Hope", the "Rebel spies" had transmitted (or beamed) the Death Star plans to Tantive IV. Why was the ship inside a hangar on Scarif, when it would have been unnecessary?

I thought it was a great action flick, not as polished as Force Awakens, and likely needed a better composer, but the set pieces were solid enough. I would have preferred Gerrera's men to have joined the "Rogues" instead of taking a bunch of nameless rebels with them on the assault on Scarif, and thus giving more conflict between the main characters (Gerrera's henchmen is pissed at Cass for shooting one of his men but it doesn't go anywhere). Would've saved them having to return to Yavin 4 once again and keep the story moving in space.

When C3P0 and R2D2 are seen in the hanger on Yavin 4, it's just as Mon Mothma is told General Raddus has committed his ship to the fight on Scarif. But it's implied that the warship is already en route; at what point do the two droids transfer to the Tantive IV??

It is a hole. Probably left from another draft and they couldn't help themselves but include it anyways.

Is it the same ship? I thought the one in question was commanded by an admiral? And the droids could have transferred over.

As I've said elsewhere. That whole series of events feels pretty cobbled together from different drafts and reshoots. Having Leia's ship in the middle of the battle is just dumb any way you slice it.

The thing is, for the way the story is set out, she has to be there. The only versions of the story that don't require it are the old LucasArts versions which basically have the theft of the Death Star plans be a multi-team effort across a dozen worlds only to have them all transmitted to Leia's ships while she's on her way to Tatooine, and then dodging for system to system with decoys to evade the empire. Most of those ignore there was a major victory in battle against the Empire at all.

The Han Solo novel version and the Radio Drama are two sides of the same story, with Leia's ship arriving to intercept the transmission before the Rebels fall due to the Imperial counter-attack. Rogue One uses a similar angle. Since all the fighters had to get there, one can guess Leia's ship went with them or shortly afterwards to help the battle, or specifically they changed the plan because they decided they needed not only the plans, but also a Jedi to rally the Alliance against the Empire (since as far as anyone is concerned, via Star Wars: Rebels at this point in its run, Kenobi is the key to destroying the Sith).

My advice is just to steer clear of all Star Wars discussions until you've seen it if you don't want to be spoiled, even by inference. Last year I tried to dodge around it in the non-spoiler threads but didn't go two weeks before someone blurted out the Han Solo twist.

I was under the impression that the spoiler policy that was implemented last year with Awakens would be in place again, maybe a mod like @Neroon could shed some light on this as what is being discussed is pretty big spoilers for the film.
