Rogue One (2016) [SW Anthology Series)

I'm wondering if the reason the comic was dropped is because they couldn't think of any material to warrant two prequels for the film and decided to go with just a novel prequel? Or for all I know, maybe the novel prequel will get cancelled too.

That's a possibility, but with so many characters I would think there would be plenty of history there for multiple prequel stories.

Well, presumably for the official prequel to the movie they'd want to narrow it down to either something centred around Jynn, or something that leads into the Rebel's mission. Hmm, that's two stories right there, thereby negating my own point.

They might be waiting to see the reaction to the characters before spending an effort on tie in materials.

TFA tie-in material including novels and comics began three months prior to the film's release. Why would Rogue One be any different?

They've done it once with TFA and it might not have been up to what they were hoping for, so they are being careful? That and anything for TFA was desired to see what is going on in Star Wars now. Rogue One is something else, but has a known story around it.

Still, prequel novels to Star Wars movies is something that's been going on since at least AOTC at the earliest, and Rebels also had a prequel novel. It would seem odd to give that up for Rogue One.

Sure, and a lot of these kinds of movies with a team coming together like this will often do prequels for each character. We got something along those lines for TFA with the Luke, Han, and Leia novels, and Before the Awakening. Although for something like that they might be waiting to see which specific characters really take off with the audiences.

According to the new 'Star Wars Show' episode, the AT-AT's in Rogue One are call 'AT-ACT', All Terrain Armored Cargo Transport. Guess that explains the bulges on the side.

Those Tan stormtroopers are 'Shoretroopers'

I wonder if any of the designs from Rogue One will eventually start popping up on Rebels?
With them taking place so close together in the timeline, it's the perfect opportunity to really make them feel like they really exist in the same universe.

I can image that being a benefit for Season Three coming out after all these things get announced.

Keep in mind though, that given how long it takes for animated shows to complete--from inception through scripting, recording, animation, rendering and final edit and mix--it might be a while before we see any direct links. Probably late season 3 or even season 4 depending on how far along things were in the pipeline when Rogue One moved into full production.

Ship/vehicle designs are probably relatively easy to drop-in relatively late in production, but it would still require them building a new asset, which eats into the budget so they need to have a good reason to use it.

It's also worth remembering that from a narrative standpoint, Rebels is still a few years out from catching up with ANH & Rogue One. So it's unlikely they'll be much of anything in terms of a direct crossover.

^ The entertainment press and bloggers seem to say that about every big genre film these days when it's in the midst of normal reshoots. I take them with a grain of salt at this point, because it's usually just clickbait headlines.

It's my understanding that reshoots are relatively common, especially on big "blockbuster" films. It's not like they are remaking the movie, just adding some extra shots that are needed to fill in the blanks after post production.

Reshoots are very normal. But four weeks is on the high side, usually meaning that some big stuff has changed. Star Trek Beyond only had 5 or 6 days. So yeah, with four weeks of reshoots, it's probably more than your run-of-the-mill reshoots.

Hmmm... change of plot? Reworking a character?

Dialogue that was choppy, ending that was not good enough. Could be all of those, or something else.

Maybe scheduling problems cause it to take place over a longer period of time. Both for locations and people.

Is this coming from a credible source or some tabloid rag? Unless it's the former I really wouldn't pay any attention to it.
