Rogue-class Shuttlecraft Carrier

Tiberius Jim

Vice Admiral
Admiral
This is a design that I've been working on for about 5 years, and while I've nailed down the basic layout, I have yet to actually finalize the details and proportions. So, with a month off from school I am not homework-free and actually have some full days to myself, so I'm actually going to get one of these babies done!

Here is the latest sketch, followed by a top view I came close to completing back in 2003. The final ship will basically be a mix of the two.

Basically, she's a heavy cruiser with a large through-deck shuttlebay sandwiched in the middle. Ships can arrive and depart via the fore and aft bay doors on either side of the ship as well as the bay doors on the dorsal hull (although those may end up being runabout pads.)

The hull arrangement makes for a compact profile making her a tough target as well as able to withstand heavy fire with a low energy drain on the shields.

Anyway, I'm debating on whether to show a WIP or to wait until I have a full orthographic spread to reveal the final ship. Let me know what you think I should do. :)

Wow, the side view really looks close to an idea I've been doodling since the mid 90s. Nice work!

It's hard to tell what's going on in the middle from that side view, but from what I can see, it looks to me like an updated Oberth configuration. I like it!

Well here are some very, very early sketches I did back when I was still CaptProton here. As you can see they are preliminary, buut it gives a basic idea of the front view.

I really like both versions of the design. It's like Sisko's Defiant was crossed with an Oberth. It's an interesting quasi-uni-hull, in that she appears to have distinctive primary and secondary hulls and nacelles, but they are more elaborately flowing into each other. I hope you keep up with this aspect of the design. (I take it this is a post-TNG exercise?)

I was just gonna say, this is what the Oberth should have looked like. Maybe they'd care more about them and not blow them up every chance they got.

Cool.....so how many shuttles will this thing hold? Would one of the ship's main purposes be evacuation of planets or colony relocation? Or maybe even "shuttle delivery" - for instance drop off a bunch of shuttles at a Starbase to replenish visiting Starships.

Here's what I have so far on the side view. She might be a little chunkier than I'd like so I think I might try again, as I'm also not happy with the line quality in some parts.

I've yet to determine a scale so I don't know what its capacity would be, but I'd imagine its missions roles could include everything you mentioned and more.

This looks great! I don't think she's too chunky... there's just more of her to love. :D

This is a very cool design... good work! :bolian:

Haha well I too like my ladies a little on the thick side, so I don't dislike it as much as I did...but I realized that I made a mistake by starting with the side view...as a lot of things don't work quite right when translated to the top view. I'm going to begin with the top and that way I think the side view will end up being closer to how I intend this thing to look.
