I know he was 89, there just always seemed something so permanent about him. He wasn't my favourite Bond but he was underrated (last time I ranked them I made him #3) He seemed like a decent bloke and I always say, of the Bond actors the only ones I could imagine going for a pint with were Roger or Pierce.

Loved him in Bond, loved him in The Wild Geese, loved him in the Cannonball Run taking the piss out of himself; "I should warn you, I'm Roger Moore."

He oddly enough placed himself 4th behinds Connery and Craig, and just slightly behind Lazenby. I'm not sure I could rate them, but Moore did a fine job and seemed like a wonderful person. I agree, Roger or Pierce seem like the only ones to grab a beer with.

I've never seen him as Sherlock Holmes! At least I don't think I have, but it sounds intriguing. I should probably try to track that down

He was my favourite Bond. Connery was very good, but I did grow up with Moore. Brosnan I think tried to walk the line between the two, but I couldn't stand him.

Sad to see. The first Bond I saw at the movies (The Spy Who Loved Me). Moore never seemed to take himself too seriously and was by most all accounts a thoroughly decent chap.

Sad news. I remember him most as the "Saint" but I also remember him from a much older series, called "IVANHOE". He played a Knight who always helped people in trouble. He'll always be a "Knight in shining armor" to me and many others. R.I.P. Sir Roger Moore.

I had the rare privilege of interviewing him back in 2000s, when already semi-retired. I was expecting arrogant, nonchalant, 'movie star' prick. Nothing could be further from perception. He was charming, witty, funny (all I would expect from Bond/The Saint), self-deprecating and genuinely lovely to be with. Spent time at end of interview to chat with crew as we were packing up. rather than rushing off. Legend.
