Roger Ebert gives one star to movie he walked out of after 8 minutes.

I'm a huge fan of Ebert's reviews. I don't always agree, but I don't think that's a requirement (same with James Berardinelli, probably my #2).

I have huge respect for Ebert, but this is strange. I saw Tru Loved at the Sedona Int'l Film Festival, and it was hilarious, entertaining and progressive being one of the few stories of growing up with gay parents. I really liked this movie. I met the director and producer, who have been a couple for 14 years and have a teenage son. The director was nice but pretentious and the producer was really cool. The lead, Najarah, was a sweetheart.

But personal feelings of the filmmakers aside, the film is low-budget, but not we've seen worse filmmaking from films like Clerks and Swingers. I went in with no idea what it was about and came out feeling a little more informed about people who are different from me, while being entertained at the same time.

Only Youtube. I thought I would remain one of the few privileged to see that video when I first saw it in college. The guy who running the Chicago Underground Film Festival in the mid 90s got the 3/4" masters of these exact outtakes and brought them to a party. I guess better than burying them in the ground or a vault.
