CMT has been airing most of the Rocky movies and couldn't really decide which one is my favorite but chose Rocky II. Let's hear some other opinions...;)

Gotta go with the first one, although it's tough because I love them all. I would rate Rocky Balboa second, and I think Rocky V is criminally underrated.

I think all of them are good movies, but the first one is special. I would rate them as follows

Rocky
Rocky IV/ Rocky III
Rocky II
Rocky V (Yep, I actually like Rocky V more than Balboa)
Rocky Balboa

Rocky
Rocky II
Rocky Balboa
Rocky III
Rocky IV

v

Rocky Mountains
Rocky Road ice cream
That Rocky kid from the movie Mask
Rock'em Sock'em Robots
Pet Rocks

Rocky V

The original by far.

Rocky II was okay but basically a remake.

Rocky III was where it started to get silly.

Rocky IV was just ridiculous.

Haven't seen Rocky V.

Rocky Balboa was pretty good. Better than we had a right to expect, really.

The first two were the best.

III and IV were okay.

V was pointless and the use of rap music completely destroyed it.

There was no good reason for Balboa at all.

Rocky - Very Good.
Rocky Balboa - Slightly less than very good.

...

There were other Rocky movies?

There is the first Rocky and then a series a pale imitations with only camp value and Mr T to enjoy

Rocky III although I like T's performance was at least number 3 on my list. Rocky IV seemed to be nothing but a continuous ad for "video bands" at the time. Although it had a good story and ending, it came out better than V which was all over the place. It seemed they wanted Rock to be "dumbed down" to return him to the way he was in the first film.
"Balboa" seemed to be the "remake" as we call it but didn't capture the correct tone.

Rocky IV will always have a special place in my heart since it's the first one I saw. And it also is the most 80s of the two Rocky films that were released in the 80s.

That said, my favorite is the first one, I think the final fight is the best and proving he could go the distance is better than winning, in my opinion.

Rocky IV will always have a special place in my heart since it's the first one I saw.

Plus, you know, Rocky single-handedly ended the Cold War with his fists and gumption. So, he'll always have a special place in my heart as well for bringing us back from the brink of annihilation.

The first three are good. The second one, though, is Rocky's "Search For Spock" - a story driven by the need to do one thing, or rather undo a story point of its successful and popular predecessor. TSFS had to bring Spock back from death; Rocky II had to have Balboa win the title - otherwise, no franchise.

I like rap music.

Rank 'em? Easy.

1. Rocky: One of my favorite films and one of the greatest movies ever made. Certainly the best sports movie ever made.

2. Rocky III: Completely entertaining. Not a sag, or a boring moment in the whole enterprise.

3. Rocky Balboa: The culmination of the entire series. It felt as if every frame of film shot from Rocky onward was building to this. One of the most satisfying conclusions to any film series ever made.

4. Rocky IV: Just goofy fun. A perfect popcorn movie.

5. Rocky V: A noble attempt to return to the feel of the original but... missing something. I think everybody tried a little too hard with this one.

6. Rocky 2: A lazy, half-assed sequel/remake. They replaced drama with melodrama and turned the life story of Rocky Balboa into a contrived, cliched soap opera.

1. Rocky - The first. The best. A great underdog story. 1976's winner for Best Picture. Don't know if it truly was the best of that year, given the competition (Taxi Driver, Network and All The President's Men were all quite worthy), but its enduring legacy as one of the great sports films of all time keeps us all coming back for more.

2. Rocky Balboa - A more fitting bookend to this story could not have been found. I know, it seems a little outrageous for a man of Rocky's age to be stepping back into the ring, but hey... if George Foreman can win the World Heavyweight Title at 45, why can't Rocky have an exhibition fight at age.... Exactly how old were we to imagine he was at this point? Clearly had to be somewhere in the 50 to 60 range. Anyway, age issues aside, this seemed like the most heartfelt story that Stallone has told with this character since the original.

3. Rocky III - Used to be my favorite back in the day. I love the new dimension in the relationship between Rocky and Apollo most of all. Can it be possible, also, that this movie features some of Hulk Hogan's best acting? Seriously, take a look at his body of work and then tell me that Thunderlips isn't his best film role!

4. Rocky II - Movie #1 done again, only with more soap opera and a different outcome to the climactic bout. Other than the fight, a definite step down from the original, but still one I can watch as repeatedly as I, III and Balboa.

5. Rocky IV - I wanted to rank this one dead last. I hate the montages with the cheesy rock music. I hate the death of Apollo Creed. I hate that stupid robot. I hate the cardboard cutout Russian villains. Seems like 1985 was the year when Stallone was at his most uber-patriotic.... and it shows. I could not, however, rank this in last place. For all of the things I find wrong with this movie, I love the brutal final fight. I can give Rocky IV that much.

6. Rocky V - No. Just no. Shoehorning Rocky back into poverty? Stupid. Tommy Morrison? Great boxer in real life, laughably bad overactor. Sage Stallone as Rocky Jr.? Despite the fact that he's obviously way older than he should be following the events of Rocky IV, I strangely have no problems with Sage's casting. In the midst of the dark cloud of shit this movie casts over our heads, what more could an inexperienced Sage Stallone do to fuck it up? Even the final (street) fight is just boring, aside from Creighton Duke getting punched after proclaiming, "Touch me and I'll sue!" Stallone himself rated this turd a "Zero"! If there's any positive to be drawn from Rocky V, it's that Stallone might never have been motivated to do Rocky Balboa 16 years later, giving the series the conclusion it deserved.

I had never seen any of them until about a year ago, then I got the 6 movie set for £5.99 and watched them all.

I would rank them thusly:

Rocky
Rocky Balboa
Rocky II
Rocky IV
Rocky III
Rocky V

I really enjoyed them all though, I think even Rocky V was an enjoyable movie.

I genuinely think they're all really fun movies, and remarkably different from each other in some ways despite having the same core character and recurring motifs.

The one I enjoy rewatching the most is Rocky III. I mean, you have Mr T, the Eye of the Tiger training montage, and a brilliant ending... what more do you want from a movie?!

Rocky is the best movie, on a structural and narrative level. Rocky II is a decent sequel. IV has some wonderfully cheesy montages and the final fight is brilliant (one of the best, IMO). V has the Don King character... "touch me, and I'll sue!"

I still haven't got round to seeing Rocky Balboa (or at least, I can't remember seeing it)...
