ROCKY IV!

Thurisaz

Lieutenant Commander
So I'm watching Rocky 4 on AMC right now. I saw it on HBO for the first time when I was in 3rd grade. This is a great flick! I think it is cool that Stalone invited Survivor back for the soundtrack. When I was a kid I had my own version of the lyrics, because I have always sucked at trying to get lyrics correct. Check out these lyrics, I think they're great.

Burning Heart lyrics
Burning Heart

Two worlds collide

Rival nations

It's a primitive clash

Venting years of frustrations

Bravely we hope

Against all hope

There is so much at stake

Seems our freedom's up

Against the ropes

Does the crowd understand?

Is it East versus West

Or man against man

Can any nation stand alone

CHORUS

In the burning Heart

Just about to burst

There's a quest for answers

An unquenchable thirst

In the darkest night

Rising like a spire

In the burning heart

The unmistakable fire

In the burning heart

In the warrious code

There's no surrender

Though his body says stop

His spirit cries - never!

Deep in our soul

A quiet ember

Know it's you against you

It's the paradox

That drives us on

It's a battle of wills

In the heat of attack

It's the passion that kills

The victory is yours alone

(Repeat Chorus)

(Repeat Chorus twice)

In the burning heart

I'm confused. There is NO Rock IV. There's only the original Rocky and then 30 years later they re-visited the character in Rock Balboa.

There were no sequels.

There were no sequels.
Sure there was! He fought B.A. Baracus in one and then Frank Castle in another...right?

Nope. He fought Apollo Creed, became a champion, then in his retirement he came back to "refind himself" after the death of Adrian to fight Mason Dixon.

I recall no street brawls, brain leisions, trips to Russia, none of that.

There's only "Rocky" and "Rocky Blaboa."

No other movies in the Rocky series.

;)

Only in hollywood could a boxer avert a war by beating the opponents national hero!

Well then you're logic is flawed, if there's only "Rocky" and "Rocky Balboa" then he never became a champion. Rocky lost the fight in "Rocky"

He became popular after his standing up to, and lasting, against Apollo and he became a champion in the intervening time between Rocky and Balboa.

It would be easier to just include Rocky 2. You can leave the rest out and everything still makes sense, relatively anyway.

Nope, sorry.

I got the DVD boxset (1-6) for Christmas and have been working through them this past week actually. Never seen any of them before and I just finished IV an hour ago.
Pretty good, I've enjoyed all 4 of them so far, although it does feel a bit like I've now seen the same film 4 times.
They all start with a bloody 5 minute recap of the last films ending, and all end with Rocky winning and that same music stirs up "da da da, da da da da"

Also, what the frak was that robot thing in Rocky IV?!
Because I want one! :D

And I thought that synthesiser music was familiar, I noted it was Vince Dicola in the credits, the guy who did Transformers: The Movie

With Rocky fresh in your mind, that will make you appreciate Rocky Balboa even more.

To be honest I loved Rocky III and IV best.

Rocky III was so great for the opening montage. Rocky defending his title against has beens. Rocky in advertising and merchandising (and Sesame Street) while Clubber Lang studies him, trains hard, and crushes opponents.

It is also ominous when you see Mickey at Clubber's fights knowing that he is aware of the brawler and his skills....and dreads the prospect of Rocky having to fight him.

Rocky IV has a lot of great moments too. Rocky's arrival in the Soviet Union with the Red Army guards glaring at him with unconcealed hatred. Rocky training in Siberia (Jackson Hole, Wyoming actually). And the fight itself. Well done so that one can almost believe Rocky has a chance against Drago.

And the ending where Rocky says "I love you kid!" to his son back home and his son with worshipful eyes mouthing "I love you too" at the television.

Out of all the Rocky sequels (except for the last, and best one, Rocky Balboa), I have a hard time picking which one is worst. Rocky IV is certainly cheesy and unapologetic with its childish 80s politics, but sometimes it is good for a laugh. You certainly have to love the unintended homoeroticism with Apollo Creed on the beach in the montage in that movie (I think the beach scene is from part three, but whatever).

Trekker is right. For any serious purposes, there are no Rocky sequels except for Rocky Balboa. But for comedic purposes, Rocky IV will do.
