Robot of Sherwood censored

I'm sure a restored version will be on the DVD set, and probably on future broadcast versions too. Heck, who knows if the various international versions will be edited or not?

It'll be the censored version in Canada - dunno about BBCA or Australia yet.

Or what they'll do on the DVD/BR

It probably is sensible of the BBC to do this; there is a horrible possibility that ISIS is planning to murder the British hostage during the British-hosted NATO summit that just began in Cardiff, so there's a nasty possibility that news of that will break just before or after this episode goes out. Usually I'm against kneejerk censorship, but in this case...

Yeah I would tend to agree. I've seen some bad knee jerk censorship though. I still remember after Hungerford ITV I think pulled a revenge western and then showed Firefox instead...Firefox which shows various scientists being gunned down by Kalashnikovs...

For the transmission it's doubtless unavoidable - but I want some reassurance that the DVD/BR set in November will be uncut...

I would hope anyone who has been personally affected by the situation in the Middle East would understand that what airs in Doctor Who isn't making light of their situation (or, frankly, referencing it in any way). In addition, I'd venture to guess that any beheadings would be committed by the bad guys (and they likely wouldn't succeed). Given that, this strikes me as absurdly reactionary. I hope it doesn't impact the clarity or flow of the episode.

There's no way anybody would be bothered by what happens in the episode, going by the script (which I've looked up just because of the censorship).

Depending on how much of the scene they've cut, it'll totally fuck up a major plot revelation of the episode too.

Even worse than that: I was working in TV listings at the time and ended up doing overtime to put through the schedule changes on the day of the Dunblane massacre, one of which was...
The BBC pulled a film because of its title (I always remember it as being the Bond film Licence to Kill, but it must have been something in the style as Bond would have been on ITV) and replaced it in part with an episode of the sitcom Waiting for God... in which Graham Crowden's character said to Stephanie Cole's "Haven't you got something better to do, Diana? What about machine-gunning children? You always enjoy that."
The perils of rushed schedule changes.

Seems like a knee jerk reaction. I'm sure the light hearted story is nothing like the real world.

Mr Awe

I'll have to come back after it airs and ask what changed. Unless America gets really lucky and we get the uncensored version, but that seems unlikely.

I'm still against kneejerk censorship.

Yeah, but can we fans just be happy that we're getting an episode of Doctor Who? Does every act of "censorship" have to be a travesty? What are we, a bunch of Harlan Ellison clones?
