Robocop Statue to be built with private funds!!!!

Thousands of years from now, archeologists will be digging threw what ever is left of the North American land mass, and they'll find a dirty old bronze Robocop statue.
Just what will they think...

What's the point, really, with all these statues? Anyone here giving anything remotely approaching "serious thought" to makign a trip to Detroit just to see a Robocop statue?

Just for the statue, no.
But it gives a reason to maybe make a trip for MotorCity Con AND see the statue. When prior I'd only passively thought about going to the MotorCity Con(comic convention).

I wouldn't go to Detroit for either alone but the statue has me and my pals, we do 2-3 shows a year, seriously bumping Detroit up the list now. I mean really Detroit has little of interest for us but a show AND the statue, well now a list is building.

Does it? It would have zero[/b] baring on any place I go to. I nfact, even if there, if it was out of the way, took too much time or gas, I wouldn't even go see what ever special statue/art display/what ever.

Now, if they make a bit, moving and talking bronze Robocop, that performs scenes from the film, with special lights and explosions, I might consider a trip over.

Details on the statue are coming out and work is under way. Apparently they already have a bust of the head worked up. I'm thinking this is has been a work in progress, restoring the Robo armor, before the statue came up . Now that it is they can utilize this though.

There's a whole approval process that the city goes through when accepting any charitable donation; this isn't any different, despite the popular support. We've made the appropriate steps in getting that process moving along, but we have several potential privately-funded locations on the table as well, not the least of which is across from the Michigan Central Station at Imagination Station. So, regardless of what happens with any of this, the statue is coming, and it will have a place to stand.

We've heard from some of the actors involved in the movie, and everyone has been extremely positive so far. We've also reached out to Peter Weller, and we hope that he's interested in attending the unveiling of the statue when it's completed. That would be incredible— his skills as an actor really made the character.

We've gotten MGM's official licensee in statuary for RoboCop on board (Fred Barton Productions), so that eventuality has already been put to bed. Obviously, it's extremely important to everyone involved that the statue is sanctioned, official, and canon, and we're making all the appropriate efforts in this regard.

Lots of good reading in that link. The idea of a RoboParc with themed benches is a bold suggestion but like he said for now they are just focused on the statue.

Great read. :techman:

Glad to know this statue is going to be high quality and will likely end up somewhere decent. Also glad to know that the prime directives are being considered for incorporation.

I wholly approve. Now, we need a Jim Kirk/Enterprise statue here in the Presidio - where Yoda already resides, wtf?!!

Frakkin' Lucasfilm took over the future grounds of Starfleet Academy on purpose. We need to put together an away team. Phasers on vaporize, target the little toad!

Perhaps even better if it were a moving statue like the one near Tate Modern

but with sound as well.

Thank you for your cooperation.
Stay out of trouble.

With the way the libs drove Detroit into the ground, they may need those funds for a Real Robocop.
