ROBERT RODRIGUEZ TO HELM "PREDATORS"... A FRANCHISE REBOOT!

I'm interested, but I don't get why this can't just be Predator 3. A reboot isn't necessary.

My feelings exactly. I'll check it out, but why a reboot? Why not just make a 3rd film in the same continuity? Maybe it's because of the AvP films, I don't know. I guess reboots are the rage now, and I can understand them for some franchises (like Halloween, and even Trek, to a certain extent), but Predator? It just seems a little unnecessary.

Well, with the Predator and Alien franchises being as interconnected as they are, if there's a solo pred movie coming out, an Alien(s) one won't be far behind

It *is* - I think they're just bandying the word reboot around because it's not being connected to AVP...

I hope that this is the case, I am getting sick of reboots, reimaginings and recycling. I would love to see an original script using the predator. I think the one versus the pirates or a big budget say set during the trench war in World War One would be neat (I think there was an old old Dark Horse comic about such a scenario)

Seeing how in different times with less tech we faced these things would be neat too. Humanity can be 'The Most Dangerous Game"

What worries me is by and large reboots..etc rarely work or are better than the old version. Dawn of the Dead, Batmen begins, to some the new Bond and the upcoming Star Trek film seem to be the exception.

Vons

They need to find a way to get Machete in this movie.

"The Predators just fucked with the wrong Mexican."

That wouldn't be hard. Just land the Preds in Mexico.
I thought that was Predator 2?:D

No, that was Norte Mexico (aka Los Angeles). That's not the home of Machete!

And I don't have a problem with reboots and the like as long as they're not handled stupidly. (Abrams, I'm looking at you and pointing...)

I know the lackluster performances of 3 and Resurrection means that many fans don't want any more entries, but why not introduce a partial reboot after Aliens while Sigourney Weaver is still able to play the character.

Weaver said around the time that AVP came out that the only way she'd return to the series was if Ridley Scott or James Cameron came back.

Speaking of Rodriguez, whatever happened to that "Red Sonja" remake?

He's supposed to be working on that, as well as sin city 2 and 3...

I swear that this guy must have ADD. I mean it seems like he's always working on six films at once.

I suspect it'll be a new movie in the existing continuity. The word "reboot" seems to get thrown around a lot lately, even in cases where it's clearly inappropriate. I've read a couple magazine articles recently that referred to Terminator Salvation as a "reboot" when I think they meant more like a "relaunch." The continuity is the same as the first 3 movies. It's just relaunching the franchise after a 6 year gap in a new format; i.e. it's a post-apocalyptic war movie starring Christian Bale rather than a car chase movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as a time travelling robot.

I've heard some idle speculation on hers & Ridley Scott's part that they might get together for one more go just to finally answer the question of where the Aliens came from. I haven't heard anything about James Cameron ever returning to the franchise. I suspect he may still be pissed off at Hicks & Newt getting killed off in Alien 3.

I don't know about WWI but I always thought the south Pacific during WWII would be the perfect setting.

I'm curious as to the visual look of the movie and the Predator him/itself.

And being a Rodriguez movie about a hardcore alien hunter it's bound to be PG17 at least.. hoping for R Rated :techman:

Yikes, I can't believe people are excited about this. Rodriguez directorial career has been accelerating downwards for years now.

Can he even make a movie anymore that doesn't look like it was shot on a green stage set in his back yard?

I'll admit his track record is kinda spotty. I love El Mariachi, Desperado, & Once Upon a Time in Mexico. From Dusk 'Till Dawn is great up until the vampires start showing up. Planet Terror was a bit gruesome for my tastes. I HATED Sin City but I think that has more to do with Frank Miller's idiotic source material. I haven't seen Spy Kids but I've heard good things about it. I heard that Shark Boy & Lava Girl was total crap.
