Riverside Shipyard - in Google Maps!

Just a bit of fun. I found this years ago, totally forgot about, then just rediscovered it on my HD. It’s the Riverside shipyard (or rather the Pastoria Energy facility in Lebec, California) as seen in Google Maps.

...and with the USS Enterprise... :)

I know it’s a controversial point with some fans, but the Enterprise was shrunk down for this scene, to about 366m. You can see here that the details on the CG model support the larger (725 - 1200m) sizes, and the walkways along the exterior are mostly way too small for the guy in the big one. Small details in turquoise, big ones in red:

And HERE is the beauty shot from the film.

That is so cool. I never realized that Enterprise was shrunk down for that scene but now that I think about it I can see that you're right.

Cool find!

Still a silly place to build a starship.

SpaceX rockets are constructed in California, but flown in Florida. The engines and other equipment are tested in Texas. That's just in the 21st century!

I don't think it matters very much where a starship is built on the Earth in the 23rd century.

With Anti-Grav technology they could build it in Death Valley if they wanted.

I meant on Earth in general.

If they use anti-gravity to lift it, why would it matter if the build it on Earth in Iowa or in Utopia Planitia on Mars?
