When the original production staff established this in the series bible, they were quite clear that the ship's components were constructed at the San Francisco Naval Yards, a real place in the real world. And that those components were assembled in orbit.Has nobody thought of the, dare I say it, simpler option?
The "San Francisco Yards" have their admin offices in San Francisco. Their actual construction facilities could be anywhere from San Francisco to Iowa to Orbit to Mars.
True, but why Iowa? Just because Kirk lives there, the writers had to put the yard there too? I can just see an invading alien force bent on destroying starfleet saying, "Lets destroy the fleetyard in Iowa! Theres nobody living there but a few hicks and cadets. It'll be easy!"![]()
By the way... I'll guarantee you that there are just as many "doofus hicks" living in Los Angelas, in Chicago, in New York City... as live in Iowa. I get SOOOO sick of the "flyover country" biases. (sigh)
Because scenes were shown in the "limited previews" (reported on by a number of folks including Anthony over at "Trekmovie.com") which state that in no uncertain terms.
Really? I have only seen Anthony mention these Riverside Yards, and I'm disinclined to trust his grasp of trivia - he gets a couple of other things obviously wrong there (such as claiming that Scotty and old Spock fírst meet on the Enterprise)
due to riding on his own expectations rather than watching the material through the eyes of a detail-starved fanboy like, well, me.
Link?
For the record, it has been reported elsewhere that this takes place in Iowa.
This?Sorry - I seriously tried to find it again, but there's so much traffic on this forum now that I honestly don't remember where to look.Link?
It was the blow-by-blow description of the New York preview by this "Anthony" guy in any case.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^3. Iowa is just good old holesome salt of the earth americana.
