News RIP Richard Herd

He was always good. William Shatner's boss on T. J. Hooker and the alien leader on V, around the same time.

A bad month for Seinfeld alums: Mandelbaum Jr, Frank Costanza and now Mr. Wilhelm. :(

He was in The Golden Girls as Rose's date and a lot of other shows; good character actor for sure -- but the charismatic and definitive "John" from "V" was one of his most iconic roles. Time to pop in the blu-rays and have a mini marathon this week...

Seinfeld managed to get really memorable performances from actors in a few, or even one, appearance. Mr. Wilhelm was one right up there.

As the recast Admiral Paris though, I think he really fit that role well. Plus there was a passing resemblance to Robert Duncan McNeill.

His appearance in V would be my next favorite. It's been a long time though.

One of my favorite moments in all of VOY is this bit in "Pathfinder":

JANEWAY: They're an exemplary crew. Your son included.
ADMIRAL PARIS: (visibly emotional) Tell him...Tell him I miss him. And I'm proud of him.

And yet, in later episodes, Tom still seemed to have a major issues with his dad. OT, I know, but that always bugged me.

IIRC, the last time Tom's issues with his dad were brought up was Thirty Days. Though, I was really disappointed they never showed any kind of a real reunion between Tom and Owen, either while the crew had established regular communication with Earth or even when they got home.

I seem to remember Tom getting a letter from his dad, later on, maybe S7, that he had an attitude about. Well after Pathfinder. It's been a few years since I did a rewatch.
