When I first stated listening to Art Bell's radio show he mostly talked politics with the occasional show on the paranormal. He was a George Bush supporter but soured on him and went full on Ross Perot. i think after Clinton beat Bush and Perot he mainly did shows on the paranormal. It was really wild crazy stuff. He kept me entertained on those nights where I had a hard time sleeping. Naturally Art Bell died yesterday which was Friday the 13th. He was 72. RIP.

Now that was some entertaining stuff in the pre-internet era! I never believed a word of the paranormal/alien stuff but it was fun to listen to, it was so bizarre. RIP Mr Bell, you kept me entertained on more than a few night watches!

Sorry to hear this. I used to love going to sleep listening to those oh so serious, discussions about alien cover up conspiracies. He used to also have legitimate physicists and other scientists on the show which was great.

He seemed like a nice man and a decent human being to me. RIP

And this is part of why the show was successful.. I don't believe Art really believed in it either.. He gave those that did a voice. But if you listened close, he was skeptical. Open minded and never contradicted a guest, but it always seemed to me that he never bought any of it, really... When his replacements took over, you could tell they were believers themselves and the show lost that certain "edge" that Art brought to it.

It's a conspiracy, he's not dead. The shadowmen and lizard people pushed him down the Hell hole. He's down there, somewhere, no doubt finding dinosaurs and new conspiracies.

He had the Devil hotline where Satan could call in. Well, now there should be an Art Bell hotline, where Art Bell calls in.....

I hadn't listened to Coast to Coast in years when I stumbled across it one night while driving. I don't remember who the host was, but the guest he had on was just about the worst ever. His topic was an advanced civilization from the past -- don't remember if it was Atlantis or a different civilization -- but he could only converse about very specific talking points. If the host asked him a question that challenged him or took him away from his narrative, he would just reply, "I'm not here to talk about that."

What Bell had the ability to do was let his callers and guests spin their yarn. Unless they were complete idiots obviously trying to mess with him, in which case he'd shut them down immediately, he would encourage them and help nudge them along. The story was the selling point for him, not the host.

It was on his show that I first heard of the chupacabra, and so many other weird phenomena. He had a great voice, and I loved listening to him interviewing guests or even just speculating about the wonders of the universe. He conversed in a personal way with truckers and insomniacs across the country (and the world). RIP, sir.

It was really the Men in Black who took him away to Area 51.

I have always wondered if Art Bell actually believe some of the stuff that aired on his show.

Rest in Peace.
