RIP Peter Graves

Awww, shit. :(

I never did get to see the original Mission: Impossible; he was best known to me from Airplane!, his long-running stint as host of A&E's Biography, and the 1980s miniseries The Winds of War and War and Remembrance (which I just finished re-watching over the past couple weeks).

The Australian reported him as the "Flying High" (the name used for Airplane! outside the U.S) star.

Guess they thought more people would know him from that than from M:I.

Most of the seasons of M:I are available on DVD. I've been going through them on Netflix and I just started the second season, Graves's first (though I've caught a lot of later ones on cable in the past year -- it's aired on a channel called ALN, American Life Network, which I don't get anymore).

Mystery Science Theater 3000 fans will remember Graves from Roger Corman's It Conquered the World, mainly for his speech at the end. "For he learned, almost too late, that Man is a feeling creature, and because of it the greatest in the world."

Damn. At least he lived to a ripe old age. I was actually just talking about him the other day and how much I enjoyed his work. RIP.

Sorry to read this. :(
He was one of the most entertaining actors ever.
Condolences to his family.

For some of us, Peter Graves was Jim Newton, the ranch owner and father in the series Fury. Fury, King of the Wild Stallions, was the real star I suppose. But I still fondly remember Graves.

Peter Graves is dead? Surely you can't be serious!

Yes, he is. And stop calling me Shirley.

Sorry, had to do it. :(

Who could forget the great "Peter Graves and the University of Minnesota" skits during the MST3K episode of "Beginning of the End".

RIP, Mr. Graves. I always liked him in whatever he was in. Always a welcoming presence on television.
