RIP Mort Drucker

Flying Spaghetti Monster

Vice Admiral
Admiral
His work is as influential to me and my childhood as Trek itself. In fact.. I could put this topic in almost every forum on this board.

RIP to the legend

Mort Drucker and Dave Berg were the spectrum of MAD Magazine artists to me. Dave did the realistic, commonplace everyday art with the humorous twist, while Mort did the wild, interpretive caricature that made his work, even with simple stories, crazy and fun. They were a one-two punch that I always enjoyed very much. Mort will be missed as much as Dave is. Perhaps even more.

Dave Berg was the guy that drew The Lighter Side Of.. and I realized that his sense of humor is so important to me. I find myself laughing at scenes that have simple humor from commonplace situations than from someone doing antics or cussing a lot to try to be funny. Sure for every Bruce Almighty (hilarious) there is always Superbad which tries so hard to be funny and I never ever laugh. I prefer comedies where something just slightly off happens and nothing else is unusual (like When Lou Diamond Phillips trips jumping over a fence in Disorganized Crime) Anyway, Berg was great. But Drucker was the very soul of Mad magazine.. I used to study every square centimeter of his work. And I always rewarded.
