RIP Marty Sklar (Disney Imagineer)

One of the last links to Uncle Walt himself is gone. Marty Sklar has died at the age of 83.

Marty was Walt Disney's right-hand man in his last years. The man who handled the company's marketing and publicity, who wrote the scripts for The Wonderful World of Color, who directed Walt's last on-screen appearance in 1966 (where he unveiled his early plans for Walt Disney World). He helped design the Enchanted Tiki Room (the first Disney Audio-Animatronic attraction) and It's a Small World. After Walt's death he rose to become president of WED Enterprises (today's Walt Disney Imagineering), where he oversaw the design/construction of EPCOT Center, Tokyo Disneyland, Disney-MGM (now Hollywood) Studios, (Euro) Disneyland Paris, Animal Kingdom, California Adventure, Tokyo DisneySea, Walt Disney Studios Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland.

It is impossible to overstate this impact this man has had on countless people's childhood memories, or vacations. He deserves a hero's welcome at the Pearly Gates. From the bottom of my heart... thank you, Marty. Thank you.
