RIP Kathryn Joosten (1939-2012)

TMZ.

In a business where aging is hard, especially on women, Joosten stood out. She only started acting in her 40s, having previously worked as a nurse, moved to Hollywood in her mid-50s, and got her first really recognizable role, on The West Wing, when she was nearly 60. She later won two Emmys for her role on Desperate Housewives (I stopped watching regularly before she became a regular, but she was funny). I also fondly remember her appearances as God on Joan of Arcadia.

Will have to watch "Two Cathedrals" in tribute tonight.

Very sad news indeed.

Loved her in The West Wing, and everything else I've seen her in since.

RIP.

As will I. It is, btw, the first episode of WW I ever saw, and it hooked me completely. Later, when I watched the series from the beginning on Bravo, and I learned who Mrs. Landingham was... well, let's just say that when "Two Cathedrals" rolled around, I spent a good deal of the episode crying my eyes out.

Kathryn Joosten will most certainly be missed.

Poor woman. I quite liked her no-nonsense character on The West Wing. Lung cancer in this case would appear to be the "feckless thug".

Rest in peace Mrs. Landingham. :weep:

Even though she's not even in it, "Two Cathedrals" remains one of my absolute favorite episodes of The West Wing. That's accredit to Joosten's performance because you felt Bartlett's loss and pain.

RIP

Being forced to be in the same room as Desperate Housewives, her one liners as McCluskey were epic.

RIP Mrs. Landingham. After I heard this I started thinking of which episode of The West Wing I need to watch in honor of her. Ones that really highlighted her well.

The ones that came to mind "In Exelcis Deo" "18th and Potomac" and "Two Cathedrals" are obvious ones. Which other ones should go on that list?

I was thinking maybe "Let Bartlet be Bartlet" "Take out the Trash Day" "The White House Pro-Am"

Anything I'm missing?

Very sad news:(

We usually have Housewives on in the background here, but she'll always be Mrs Landingham to me.

She was a real dame. :(

It's interesting how I've started using the phrase "having a little bit of a day" thanks to this scene.

My favorite Mrs. Landingham moment was when she said "I miss my boys", when speaking about her sons.

Wow, talk about life imitating art. I didn't watch the West Wing but I knew her character through Desperate Housewives. You know it occurred to me that she didn't look well as the series ended but I had no idea she really was suffering from lung cancer. I thought it was just her character arc for that show. :(

She was a gifted and talented woman. I loved her characters and wish I'd met her.
Also wish I had he nerve to try LA.

RIP dear lady. You were loved and will be sorely missed.
