Rip in the fabric of space/time fandom

Why don't you go ahead and close this? You say you want the thread to be about something, but as near as I can tell, based on these last few posts, it has turned into a circle-jerk amongst several posters.

OH NOEZ! People agreeing? About something positive? Heavens! Clearly, the thread has outlived its usefulness and must be purged.

OT, count me in as another who feels fully capable of enjoying this new film and all the Trek that preceded it. If other fans are incapable of that, well, their loss.

So we count that as a NO, you don't believe there is a 'rip in the fabric of space/time fandom?

In case you didn't notice, there were instances of people agreeing about -- dare I say it? -- not liking certain aspects too, further upthread. However they weren't comments that just parroted one another.

If there isn't any content being posted, and the topic isn't being discussed, then what is the point? And I guess this could serve as a way for some posters to close down every thread they find too negative ... they just get together and 'i like' followed by 'not just you - i like too' and so on until the banality of it overwhelms sensibility and drives intelligent dissent offboard.

Of course there is. Our respective opinions on a lot of issues is proof of that. But there's plenty of schisms already in place. Trek XI won't change things in that regard; at worst, all it will add is another wrinkle in the fandom.

Which brings us right back to the very same conclusion which a number of people were drawing in the first dozen or so replies to the thread, before the petty, squabbly crap and the spammery to which I referred here started making its way in.

Perhaps trevanian was right in suggesting that it was time the thread be closed (though the "argument" advanced did little to convince); we seem to have circled back around to where we were several pages ago. If xortex can supply a good reason for the thread to continue, it might be possible that it would be re-opened but, given his later contributions to the thread, I'm not terribly optimistic about that chance.
