RIP George Carlin

They're playing clips of his act on Larry King, he was unique. Like everyone has said, he made you think and laugh -- there are few comics who can do that. Even when you didn't agree with him, his comments were so well thought out that you had to admire his opinion and logic behind him. I don't think I'll ever be as upfront, intelligent and funny as he was but you always gotta try.

I really can't add anything to what's been said. Except that I will miss him. A lot.

Rest in peace Mr Carlin :(

"And if you take a look at our national weather map...you'll see that we don't have one."

"Tonight's forecast: DARK. Continued mostly dark tonight, turning to widely scattered light in the morning." :guffaw:

HBO to replay all of his comedy concerts. LINK

"Because HBO has had such a long and close relationship with George Carlin, his passing is like losing one of our own," HBO Entertainment Senior Vice President Nancy Geller said in a statement. "No performer was more important to helping our network define itself in its early years."

Carlin began giving performances on HBO as far back as 1977, almost since the network's inception, and the network will air the first "George Carlin at USC" as well as the final "It's Bad for Ya."Sister network HBO2 will show 11 of his specials over two nights.

BTW, just to clarify, the famous Supreme Court decision that's often mentioned was against a company named Pacifica that aired his recording.

It never involved Carlin personally.

Wow, that's awesome.

I sure wish I had HBO right now. :(

Carlin had a competition going with Richard Pryor, and it was one of George's routines in the early 1980's:

"I'm leading Richard Pryor 2 to 1 in heart attacks, but he's leading me 1 to nothing in burning yourself up!

... First, Richard had a heart attack. Then I had a heart attack. Then Richard set himself on fire. Then I went, "Fuck that! I'm going to have another heart attack!"

I'm sure Richard Pryor had a good laugh too.

I still laugh at George Carlin's routine about the major differences between football and baseball.

The football vs. baseball bit is one of my absolute favorites. I'm also really like his bit about "stuff" and how our lives are built around it.

That one's funny. But the one that got me to run and buy my first Carlin album was the rice krispy bit.

"Snap, crackle, fuck him. Now I don't know which one of them said it as I was not looking directly into the bowl at the time"

The first time I ever saw his comedy was Carlin On Campus back in the 80's. I love the sports cheer:

Rat shit, bat shit, dirty old twat!
Sixty-nine assholes tied in a knot!
Hooray...
Lizard shit...
FUCK!

:guffaw:

I don't remember the exact wordage but he was on Leno or Letterman or something once talking about TV censorship. Pointing out that you can say "piss" as long as it's not in a scatalogical sense.

"I'm pissed off!"
"Why?"
"I'm pissed off because I've been [bleeped] on!"

Yeah, apparently today the same thing goes for "asshole". Some cable channels do allow that now as an insult, but not in reference to the anus. Ridiculous.

FCC is still adamant about their refusal to allow references to scatological or other waste functions.

Can't wait until those worthless bastards all lose their jobs in January and people with at LEAST half a brain are in a position to decide if 2 seconds of naked titty are going to destroy society or not.

I heard that NBC is going to air the first episode of Saturday Night Live in which Carlin was host this weekend. I might just watch that, as well as being it might be the best SNL in years.

Definitely check it out. I have the first season on DVD and all of the episodes are great, although wildly different from today. In fact, the early episodes of the first season, the Not Ready For Primetime Players weren't a big part of the show. Instead it was mostly music, Jim Henson's Muppets (usually just one sketch per episode), and one or two documentaries.

The Land Of Gorch! ;)

And I love me some Carlin. HBO is rerunning all his specials this weekend. :)

I recorded last nights block on HBO2, and will be again tonight.

Some great stuff! Makes me miss him even more.
