Actor James MacArthur, who portrayed the role of Detective Danny “Danno” Williams on the original Hawaii Five-O, died Thursday of natural causes. The late actor’s agent, Richard Lewis, told NPR that no direct cause of death has been specified.

MacArthur is survived by his wife of more than 25 years, H.B. Duntz, and his four children, Charles, James, Juliette, and Mary, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Before meeting Duntz, he had previously been married to actresses Joyce Bulifant and Melody Patterson.

Sad news. I believe he was the last surviving cast member of the original "main" cast of Hawaii 5-0.

He was more talented than many realized. So sorry to read this. RIP, sir, say hi to your mom and dad.

Very sad. I was hoping they'd find a way to have him guest-star in the new show, since he was in the pilot for the 1996 re-imagined series.

Never watched the old 5-0 series but I'll always remember him as Fritz from Swiss Family Robinson. :(
5-0 was a fantastic series; popular for its intensity and casting (particularly Jack Lord). Try it out sometime; you would not be disappointed :)

This is really sad news.

I've lately been catching up on the early 5-0's and just yesterday my Season 5 arrived (considered one of the very best seasons of its 12 year run). And, of course, I also had hoped to see his cameo on the new series.

:(

I remember him in both roles, and also as young Lt. Weaver playing opposite Telly Savalas' blustering Sgt. Guffy in The Battle of the Bulge. Do check out the old Hawaii Five-O, though - it's good stuff, if sometimes a bit formula.

I'm off to watch a season 8 episode during lunch right now. I've been watching one-for-liunch (in order) every saturday for, well years now, I guess.
