RIP Bubba Smith

^
Yep. Everyone had very nice words to say about him.

I'll always remember him from the Police Academy movies. Although I think my all-time favorite Bubba Smith appearance was as Al Bundy's rival "Spare Tire" in Married with Children. The image of him and Al going toe-to-toe with the Chariots of Fire music in the background always made me laugh.
That's one of the best episodes of the series. And Police Academy... is it weird Commandant Eric Lassard outlived Hightower and Tackleberry? He's ancient, but he's still around. It's too bad they dont show Police Academy 2-6 anymore.

And Rincewiend, nice avatar. Who's that in the picture? Alas, its too bad Helen Noel of TOS never had a wardrobe malfunction. Of course, her Starfleet uniform was so impeccably designed...

Near the end of Bubba Smith's playing days, color analyst Don Meredith was asked during a broadcast to "describe Bubba Smith in a nutshell." (I think by Howard Cosell, but I won't swear to that.) Dandy Don replied, "pretty damn cramped." I had to wipe away a tear from laughing too hard.

Man. I know there was some talk by Steve Guttenberg and Hugh Wilson (the director of the first Police Academy film) about reviving the series within the last couple of years. However, as excited as I was about that news at the time, the passing of Bubba Smith, added to the previous passing of David Graf (Tackleberry), makes me think that any reunion at this point would be less than satisfying.

RIP, Mr. Smith.
