RIP, Brittany Murphy

You're welcome to have your own definition of chunky, and I'll have mine.

Attitudes like these are why we have so many problems with eating disorders in this country.

I hope you're just arguing for the sake of arguing, and you haven't actually bought into the media's over-sensationalism of eating disorders. Obesity is the big killer in this country, not anorexia/bulimia. You should be concerned about the messages being sent to people who eat too much, not people who eat too little.

No, he's right, and the so-called 'obesity plague' is a lot of hot air to begin with, started by the diet industry to get profits for their products. It is this nonsense that's wrecking the lives of young women like Brittany, and killing them.

Report: "Large Amounts" of Prescription Drugs Found in Brittany Murphy's Bedroom

The medications included Topamax (an anti-seizure medication also used to prevent migraines), Methylprednisolone (an anti-inflammatory), Fluoxetine (a depression medication), Klonopin (an anxiety medication), Carbamazepine (which treats diabetic symptoms and bipolarism), Ativan (an anxiety medication), Vicoprofen (a pain reliever), Propranolol (a hypertension medication, used to prevent heart attacks), Biaxin (an antibiotic), Hydrocodone (a pain medication) and vitamins, TMZ reports.

Strange...I've never heard of carbamazepine used to treat diabetic symptoms? Is this report accurate? Carbamazepine is used primarily as an anti-convulsant, or off label as a mood stabilizer.

Ativan, known in its general label as lorazepam, is also used primarily as an anti-convulsant, used to treat seizures. Seems to be a lot of anti-seizure meds. Wonder if she had a seizure disorder?

Strange thing about this was that I was just searching the net for some of her music the Saturday before I heard she'd died. She had a pretty fantastic voice, singing for Happy Feet and some other song with Paul Oakenfield. It was a bit of a shock. Too bad. So young. Wasn't she going to be in Sin City 2?

Gosh, you're my hero.

Were you meant to be witty with that comment?
No, dead serious. I worship adolescent posturing.

And because I can not out wit you with that fail of a comment, I worship your mum

As I originally said, people die, they die all the time, what exactly makes some two bit "celebrity" who may or may not have taken too many drugs more important than say someone's next door neighbour, boss or lover? Nothing, nadda, zilch.

So, should fora like this or others be populated with threads saying that someone's neighbour, boss or lover is dead, not at all, so again, why does some two bit celebrity who I bet no one on here has met and only know things about them through which ever media outlet they subscribe to deserve such a thread?

If you don't care about Brittany Murphy, don't click on the topic. She will never bother you again.

Exactly. She's a Human Being just like anyone else, and that tends to bring out the compassion in people who have it.

So, should fora like this or others be populated with threads saying that someone's neighbour, boss or lover is dead, not at all, so again, why does some two bit celebrity who I bet no one on here has met and only know things about them through which ever media outlet they subscribe to deserve such a thread?
Such Threads do, and should, exist; not only for friends and relatives, but even pets. This is a Media Forum, so it's the appropriate place to note a celebrity death. Celebrities, by definition, are known to a lot of people and have touched their lives in some way, even if it's only by entertaining them (which is no small thing in and of itself). When a fellow Human Being dies, people with compassion are moved to express their sadness both at the loss of life and the grief of those closest to the deceased. Then there are those others, luckily very few in number, who not only lack that compassion, but actually feel contempt for it. Those people are to be pitied.

It's not like we're all moping around ready to off ourselves in a fit of depression.

An actress we like who entertained us died at a very young age. That's sad. You can even make it selfish by saying it's sad we'll never enjoy a performance from her again. I was looking forward to Sin City 2, and was hoping she'd be in it. Now...no. That sucks.

Someone posts that sucks, that's sad, rest in peace...but I'm sure when we step away from the thread we're not too worried about it anymore in any way that'll affect our lives. You make it sound like we're buying plane tickets to the funeral.

There is always someone who has to come to a thread like this and say the exact same thing you just did.:rolleyes:

You are more than welcome to post in Misc. or TNZ about a loved one or Neighbor. People do it here all the time and many of us offer condolences. This is tvmedia there is nothing wrong with posting about a deceased celebrity. Brittany Murphy is a well reconized actress as well as voice actress. She brought many years of entertainment to many here with her voice work on King Of the Hill. I for one enjoyed her voice work as Luanne. WHY does it bother you so much that many here want to discuss her passing????

Also where did anyone say or even imply that her death is more important than a lover, boss etc. Again many post here about deaths like that. The DIFFERENCE is no one but that person knows the deceased and the best we can do is offer them condolence and some comfort. Absolutely nothing wrong with that.

I don't understand why someone would be bothered by a thread about the death of a celebrity on a media themed bb. Also talking about the death of a celebrity is a shared experience so there can be discussions about it and how it did or did not effect you. If a friend or family member dies you can post about it in the misc section but most people can only offer condolences since they didn't know of the person at all.

That has to be about the nuttiest conspiracy theory I've ever heard.

Sadly, it's all true, and can be proven by checking around the Internet.

I really wish the book No Fat Chicks could be republished; the world needs a great wake-up call on these issues still.

By that logic aren't we all wasting our time on aboard devoted to a campy, low-budget 60's TV show with a lot of bad acting? Some of us liked Brittany Murphy and we think it is a shame that she died so young. That doesn't seem that far-fetched a concept. Get over it.

Hmm, got to agree with L2G on this one. As far as the general population goes I think diabetes and heart disease far outweigh anorexia and bulimia as public health concerns. The hypothesis that girls are being especially targeted is questionable as well. If you don't think there are similar issues for young males look up steroid use among teenage boys.

I can't believe this, even though I didn't follow her career really I find this very sad. She was so young and it's very shocking.

It is very sad when someone so young dies. It is sad when anyone dies, but when it is there time "God says Come Home My Child" :)
