RIP Bob Probert

Long time Red Wings and Blackhawks enforcer Bob Probert died suddenly yesterday after experiencing chest pains. He was 45.

Love him or hate him, Probie was very good at what he did over his 17 years in the NHL. As much of a tough guy as he was on the ice, by all accounts he was one of the nicest guys off the ice.

Some of his best fights were against Tie Domi. At least he got to see the Cup raised in Chicago before he went.

Whenever Domi and Probert threw down it was big news in Toronto. Sure, he was a goon on the ice, but I too have heard that he was a class act.

Yeah, by all accounts, Probert was a class act. One of the greats in that coveted "Hate to play against, but love to have on your side" category. Tragic that he died so young.

I know that I'm really late to this sad little party, but I don't come into this forum often, and actually sort of forgot to look for a thread about this here. Paid my more timely respects in the Red Wings news feed I get on Facebook.

However, as a long-time Red Wings fan, when I saw this thread here, I felt the need to bump it just a bit to pay my respects here as well.

Probie was an awesome enforcer...but that was his ice persona. Always seemed like a class-act off-ice. And died WAY too young.
