RIP Arlene Martel

She's also in The Outer Limits: Demon with a Glass Hand, by Harlan Ellison, starring Robert Culp. Other future Trek guests in the episode include Abraham Sofaer, Rex Holman, and Robert Fortier.

I recall her in "Twenty-Two," from THE TWILIGHT ZONE. "Room for one more, honey."

RIP.

You can never guess which celebrity is going to pass next. Robin Williams, Lauren Bacall, Arlene Martel. It's always a surprise.

Room for one more, indeed.

I just hope your posting a picture of Nimoy isn't an omen.

I missed the news about Bacall.

I remember seeing her in person at an I-Con in Long Island many years ago. I'm glad she was able to enjoy her "Star Trek" celebrity for as long as she did. Sad to hear she's passed away.

So did I.

I remember as a kid, I used to scratch my head when my parents would peruse the obituary page. Now that I'm older, I totally get it.

Funny how as I get older, life becomes more of a case of being on the outside looking in. Someone recently described life as being like a roll of toilet paper, in that the closer to the end you get, the faster the roll goes. To any younger folks here, I cannot stress enough how true that seems to be.

Although not actors, other people known in sci-fi and film circles passed away on the 11th:
  • Makeup legend Dick Smith (IMDB link), who did The Godfather, The Exorcist, Altered States and Death Becomes Her, amongst a jillion others.
  • Pyrotechnic expert Joe Viskocil (IMDB link), whose best known kaboom was the Death Star in Star Wars.

This is one of my all-time favorite sci-fi yarns.

Arlene Martel was one of my favorite guest stars TOS had. Ever since I was a little kid, she stood out for me. Sad day.

There are two thread on Arlene Martel's passing, might I say that "Rest in Peace Arlene Martel" is far classier than "Arlene Martel Dead."

Her part in Amok Time really wasn't that big, but she help create a character who has had a profound effect on the Star Trek universe.

Vaya con Dios.

GFDM

I saw her in a TZ episode, she was sitting in the back looking hot. It turns out she was a featured actress and I was immediately smitten. Only to find out that she was Arlene Martel.

Celebrities of that level are often easy to contact, so I found her email on the internet via her website and wrote her to tell her she still looked as beautiful now as she did then. She actually wrote back to thank me for my kind words.

She was in TWO Twilight Episodes "What You Need" was the other. Very sad.

Too bad she didn't work more in her later years.

Ah, Jeez, that is sad news and 78 is not old. Isn't it something that one character, that really doesn't have a lot of screen time, can so profoundly impact a television series. RIP.
