RIP Andy Rooney

Yeah, he obviously enjoyed what he was doing (bitching about nothing to millions of people decades before the internet) but, still, I'm sure he would have enjoyed a couple years of actual retirement rather than a couple of weeks.

A lot of people go into retirement only to actually begin the process of dying; in other words, maybe working until the end was his ideal of retirement...

Aw. You were a lovable, wise, curmudgeon who will be sorely missed. Rest in peace, Andy. :(

Whether he was 92 or 22, his death is a shame. Rooney was an atheist who always expressed his antipathy towards the romanticization of death.

Politically, he was questionable at times, particularly on racial matters, but he was clever, humorous, and insightful in a way that by my time already seemed removed from another era.

Here's an amusing excerpt from an interview where he pretty much thrashes Ernest Hemingway, whom he had a run-in with in France in the Second World War:

I love Hemingway, but then I never met the guy.

I doubt he's been writing very much for many years now, his work outside of 60 minutes has become limited in recent years. It's not like he was working a 40 hour a week job right up until his death, I'm sure he spent 95% of his time doing whatever pleased him, outside of writing.

Well I certainly never thought of it as gluttony before, but to me gluttony is more than just over eating, it is also hoarding food.

With that being said, I really don't see how it really is gluttony. I think it's just about enjoying good or great food and having a party with some good friends. And much of that food looks absolutely delicious.

But granted, there have been some ridiculously large challenges, like the Hellfire challenge and a freaking HUGE 14 pound PIZZZA!

Drooooooool.
