Rio de Janeiro wins 2016 Olympics

I should probably be upset that Chicago was pulled out of the running, but I'm not. It would have cost the city so much money and the congestion would have driven me crazy.

Shitcargo wasn't "pulled out of the running", it lost, it came in last place. We're number 4!!! We're number 4!!!

Anyways good for them, South America never had one and I find that shocking. About time they get it. Frankly does anyone who doesn't live around that city care where it is? I don't.

If we (US) didn't get it, I'm kind of glad Rio got it. First south american olympics, some real patriotism shown by people from there, like Pele had a striking comment about how he would gladly die for his country.

I used that phrase because I had read an article saying that Chicago and Tokyo had been pulled out of the running, leaving it to Madrid and Rio. Also why are you attempting to insult Chicago by changing it's name? Do you have personal issues with the city itself?

Edit: Nevermind. I hadn't realized you were the same poster that was rude to Spot's Meow in her thread. I rescind my request for further explanation or discussion from you.

Brazil could have a heck of a task ahead. I mean, in 2014 (two years before they host the Olympics) they're hosting this little party known as the FIFA World Cup...

Awesome! I was just talking to my friends at work about the 2016 Summer Olympics venue. What better place to do it than in South America, e.g., Brazil. My psychic ability is improving. ;)

I'm very, very happy with this decision. Yay for Rio de Janeiro!

I'm really very glad that Chicago didn't get the games.

I think it's a good idea to host it in Brazil. I couldn't see Madrid getting it due to Barcelona's Olympics being too recent.

If bigdaddy is bashing something that usually means it's good so my interest in visiting Chicago just went up.

The British team had a number of problems in Barcelona due to the heat (Horses in the showjumping were noticably affected), so I'm not sure if holding the Olympics in any hot climate is a good thing for any team from a temperate climate.
That said its about time South America got to hold one.

I'm sad that it isn't in Chicago because I live far enough away (near Indianapolis) that it wouldn't have affected me at all unless I wanted it to, and yet I'm close enough that I could have basked in reflected glory if I wanted to. Also, it really is a neat city.

But it is past time for South America to have it, so good for them. And I hear Rio is fairly a decent city, too. ;)

I'm glad Rio got the bid. I'm looking forward to seeing some events live instead of everything being delayed.

Well..Rio is in winter during that time of year..but VERY nice for athletic events..

most of the Olympic venues already are built..Pan-American games were held there in 2007 and with the W/C in 2014..it's damn near already set up..

President Lula announced that the games would be SAFE..and the major expense for them would be SECURITY... probably lots of cameras and officers..probably the Military would get involved..

But wait until authorities in the IOC have to deal with Latin America's definition of scheduling - I'll be right there means anytime today. Timetables are mere suggestion.

A healthy lifestyle but maddening to type A folks.

It's best to ignore his useless hit-and-run comments like the rest of us do.

Wow... three more people to the ignore list! Nice!

Playing Civ 2 a friend and I made up different names for each American city, the only one I remember was Shitcargo which came as a suggestion from him mom. :)

Also I much MUCH rather have it in Rio than another lame American city, you can pick 20 cities out of a hat to host the Olympics in the USA, frankly none of them really bring anything special.
