Riker vice a versa Picard

Bald people try to hide their lack of hair often use clever psychology to show lack of hair is not a impediment but deep down they long for the day when a cure for balness is invented. They often are depressed and need help from psychologists.

No way would ANY man ever volunteer to lose his hair permanently in the future as that would be a deliberate act of handicapping of oneself.

 I think there are some wheelchair-bound people, as well as some blind, deaf, and parapalegic people who would disagree with your use of the term "handicapping oneself."

Also, please tell me what else I'm "longing for?" You seem to know how ALL bald people feel.

What is your documentation to show that bald people have need for psychological help any more or less than people with full heads of hair? As you are quite confident in your assertions, it can only be assumed that you have researched this fully.

IMO TNG really wouldn't have worked anywhere near as well if we had Riker as Captain. Part of the whole reason we got Picard was because they decided they wanted to something different from TOS, and so they gave Picard, who was pretty much the oposite of Kirk.
I really don't think Riker would have really been a very good Captain if it weren't for his time as Picard's XO. Because ( as I believe they say in the Titan books) his time with Picard really helped to mellow him, and I really think if this hadn't happened then he would have been way to much of a hothead to be a decent captain.

As for the baldness thing, I really don't see how being bald has anything to do with how well a person does in a powerfull position, we have seen plenty of great leaders who are bald (many of whom have been listed above). Plus, I know for a fact alot of women find baldness sexy, there was actually a girl I knew my sophmore year of high school who liked Patrick Stewart in fact.
One other problem with you post is the fact that you are using Thomas Riker as an example of what William Riker could be like as a leader, but by that point they were two very different people. IMO a better example would have been one Best of Both Worlds.

Baldness on the head is unnatural. When you are making love you have nothing to run your fingers through.

If my boyfriend became bald I would dump him.

That says alot about you and your boyfriend. But everyone is into what they are into, there is nothing wrong with that. If you don't like bald men, cool! Its refreshing to see someone who isn't so politically correct. However, if you are in the game of having boyfriend, i hope you look at things a little more serious than how you are portraying yourself. Now if its just having a boyfriend for sex and what they can do for you immediately until you have depelted them of everything and then move on, thats one thing. But if you see guys and have boyfriends in order to one day find that right one, well then your doomed. What else is there that can happen that will cause you to dump him? If you would dump him over his hair line, it's probably a good assumption you will dump him for other miniscule reasons. I don't think I spelled that right. Anyhow, what else is there? He could gain some weight, he could have his nose broken and appear different, he could develope some sort of retardation due to an accident. The whole point is that he is there for you now because it is convenient for you. What it says about him is, either he doesn't know that you would dump him for reasons as asinine as this, or he does know you would dump him and he is fine with being with someone who would do that. If the latter is the case, then he is with you because it works for him right now. God forbid something happens to you that would result in you losing your hair, or you gain weight, or he has decided at some point the sex is no good or whatever and he decides to dump you. Either way you both come off as users.
I had sex with a girl who had a shaved head, she was punk and real attractive, she could pull off that look. I didn't mind not having any hair to run my fingers thru, but hey I'm a guy.
Baldness is not unnatural, it's in our genes. You develope it thru the genes either being dominant or recessive and what your parents provide you with concerning this.
Men develope a complex over baldness because of women like you, just like women feel they need to look a certain way and develope complexes because of what they think men are looking for. Women binge and purge, undergo plastic surgury, and have sex to try and please a guy when they dont need to. It's all the same thing.
Picard would never take pubic hair and apply it to his head.
How can you call yourself a star trek fan when one of the most important things it stands for you just sweep under the rug, no pun intended. People who "judge a book by its cover" end up screwing themselves in the end.
I would love to have a girl that looks just like Megan Fox, but i won't let that limit me to meeting and being with as many beautiful girls, inside or out, that I can.
I have a full head of hair by the way. :)

Frakes is a decent actor but he's not a series lead type of actor. He's a supporting player.

I disagree. I really would like to see Frakes put in charge of TV Trek while JJA handles the big screen. I really hope STXI is such a hit that we get a 6-8 hour Trek TV miniseries. I want it to star Frakes as Capt. Riker of the Titan with a few regular characters from the other two 24th century shows. It could show them all about 10 years after NEM. Riker has become a seasoned captain and we would see him respond in some ways as Picard would, although certainly not all. Picard's mentoring would show through subtly. Frakes/Riker could carry off the lead role in such a miniseries as he is a very good actor with a strong, likable character. If successful, maybe we'd see two a year for a while.

That just screams of fanwank. Why would Trek XI lead to a return to the 24th Century? :cardie:

Yep. The only reason why people have hair.

If my boyfriend became bald I would dump him.
More power to you. The world is full of assholes with luscious hair.

Vice versa does not mean opposite. My Boyfriend says it means switching of B to A and A to B.
Vice versa means juxtapostion or transposition
Vice versa means "the other way around". I have yet to see it used in this way. Maybe what you meant was: "Is Picard better than Riker, or vice versa?"

I see no one has refuted my examples of other actors being occulted by Picards presence or eclipsed.
Well, since he is the captain and the main player...

My examples would augment my arguement and support the proposition of Riker being better.
???
The only thing you said is that Riker has hair and Picard does not.

I agree that after BOBW Picard should have been fired and replaced by Ricar who has charm and suavity with an easy going demeanor.
No one ever suggested that.

Man, I feel a little guilty replying to that: it's like shooting at the Red Cross.

I think this thread should be closed before it really goes too far.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but the insults have already been flying.

I'm someone, and I did. I didn't see it so much as firing Stewart, I just thought it might be an interesting experiment in recasting the show to give the writers new fodder for taking the series in a new direction. (It was never my intent to suggest that Patrick Stewart wouldn't make future appearances in some fashion -- we never did get a mirror universe episode on TNG). :)

Baldness on the head is unnatural. When you are making love you have nothing to run your fingers through.

Unnatural means not existing in nature. You're saying that baldness isn't genetic, but instead some side-effect of the modern lifestyle? I don't have a scientific study saying that's true or untrue, but I highly doubt it. I know that it's hereditary, meaning passed down from parent to child. None of my relatives have any baldness even into their elderly years, whereas in many families all the men are bald by the time they're 30. That suggests genetic, and it's pretty common among men at a certain age.

Generally a person will look better with a head of hair than that same person with zero hair, but that's entirely different from saying all people with no hair are inferior and all people with hair are superior.

One of those is a preference whereas the other would constitute a prejudice.

As far as the looks thing, I think a lot of people would say that Sisko from DS9 didn't get his mojo until he shaved his head.

Ratings-wise TNG was the most successful Star Trek series by far, and Stewart's Picard was a huge part of that success. He's definitely the most indispensable actor in the show. As much as I love all the rest of the characters and their actors, any one of them would be far easier to recast or replace than Patrick Stewart's Picard.

Avery Brooks, Samuel L Jackson and Tyrese Gibson all look better bald. Laurence Fishburne can go either way.

black guys generally look more badass with no hair...

Appearence is everything. When you watch TV everyone is made up with make up to look perfect. There are no ugly people on tv as viewers would swith over in droves.Every commercial promotes beauty products.Hair products make a huge market.

When you go to get a job the interviewer decides within the first 30 seconds if you will be hired or not. This is a established fact as numerous studies have shown.

My boyfriend as explained in a previous post broke my middle finger and my collar bone last week after coming home drunk. He is no great catch and just a user anyway. You men all stick together and use us women and I bet you would never go out with an ugly girl despite your protestions to the contrary.
I was pushed into taking crack cocaine by him and his friends and everyday they try to get me back on and everyday manage to not to go back on again.
A multibillion $ industry exists promoting anti-baldness products and this confirms most men's hang ups.Anyone who says they are not concerned about losing their hair is a lier or delusional.

Riker is a man's man and his charisma and steely eyed look was much better. So what if he looked like Kirk?
Kirk is an icon.He is revered, worshipped, idolised and hankered after. He is a pinup.
I dare say I have never seen Picard's picture in a bedroom.

No way would Picard in the future not take a hair cure to cure his baldness as his partial white hair made him look ridiculous like a girl with a tutu on around his head.

Appearance is important, yes. But it is not everything.

When you watch TV everyone is made up with make up to look perfect. There are no ugly people on tv as viewers would swith over in droves.Every commercial promotes beauty products.Hair products make a huge market.
Again, that's a pretty obvious statement. But the Picard character is not a pretty boy: he's a seasoned leader, with great diplomatic skills and great personal charisma. A head full of hair would not make the smallest difference for him.

When you go to get a job the interviewer decides within the first 30 seconds if you will be hired or not. This is a established fact as numerous studies have shown.
I'm not dismissing the fact that beautiful people have an advantage: they surely do. But that's not everything about a leader. I would surely prefer to work under a nice, competent and kind man with a shining bald cranium than under a mean, spiteful moron with great hair.

My boyfriend as explained in a previous post broke my middle finger and my collar bone last week after coming home drunk. He is no great catch and just a user anyway.
I'm really not going into that. This is horrendous and you seem so... casual about it. You should seek help and counsel, because no one, no one, should be put under that kind of abuse. I hope you understand this.

I'm continuing this discussion just because you seem interested and if you want I will provide my point of view. But this casual interlude about abuse and violence is most disturbing.

You men all stick together and use us women and I bet you would never go out with an ugly girl despite your protestions to the contrary.
On one thing you are right: I am ready to admit that I probably would not date a girl that I find really ugly (well, if her personality is really great, maybe I would learn to overlook that, but physical attraction is important to me). What is ugly, however is debatable. I've seen people drolling after girls that I do not find attractive, and people ignoring girls that I otherwise find quite hot. As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

And surely I do not give a shit what my supervisor or my colleagues look like: my concerns are first and foremost their competence (and in second place, their personality). Their appearance is irrelevant (well, aside from personal hygiene...)

However, I protest your assumption that all men use women. I understand where you come from, but it's simply not true. And, with all due respect, I'm beginning to question your judgment about people, since you said that you would dump your boyfriend if he would lose his hair, and at the same time you think nothing of his history of violence and addiction. Maybe you should try to reconsider your priorities.

Riker is a man's man and his charisma and steely eyed look was much better. So what if he looked like Kirk? Kirk is an icon.He is revered, worshipped, idolised and hankered after. He is a pinup. I dare say I have never seen Picard's picture in a bedroom.
I've never seen Julius Caesar's portrait in a bedroom, but half the world followed him nonetheless (and he did not had exactly a full head of hair, either). Hair can be important for sexual attraction? Yes. But commanding presence have nothing to do with sexual attraction (and on the other hand, sexual attraction can be triggered by a commanding presence).

At first i thought this thread was absolutley bad, but i think Im coming around to uptightgirl. I would like to hear more of her views. Regardless if you agree or disagree with her she is making us talk. I agree with points she has made and disagree with others.

Crack cocaine, what the fuck? Ive enjoyed skiing the forbidden slopes in my time but being pushed into doing it, thats wrong girl. Broken fingers and collar bones? Girl get out! Don't sell yourself so short. In a past post on this thread I mentioned that your boyfriend might be a user, you confirmed it by saying he was and these actions if they are true also go to prove it.

Guys are indeed stupid from time to time, some guys and there actions make the rest of us look bad. Just like easy girls, and im not complaining, make it tougher for good girls.

Riker is great! He had his share of command moments and shined in all of them. I think the idea of a young girl with a Patrick Stewart poster above their bed is hilarious!

I agree with posters on this thread. While you may believe Riker would be a better Captain, which is great, you probably have bigger fish to fry right now. Good luck, I hope to see you post again just to know you alright. :)

It occurred to me that TNG could have been even more successful if Riker had been captain and Picard had played a role like Helmsman or Bridge Diplomat.

It is already the most successful series by far, what more do you want?

You've clearly never seen my girlfriend. Would you date an ugly man? They might treat you better.

Not that I buy any of this for a second

OK, this thread has turned way to hostile. I don't even see what you could talk about that is trek related anymore anyway. Thread closed! Send comments via PM.
