You're inclined not to watch a movie because you think someone who can't act gets killed at the beginning?

Average script and story, excellent actors. Anyone else in the leads it would have been forgettable. They sure propped up Brian Dennehy for this one. That man is really shrinking ... a shame, because he's always been one of my favorite character actors. Big and threatening.

Anyone see this movie? It came out this past weekend and did decent business for a September flick. Rather than start a new thread, I figure I'd just bump this one since there's already discussion going on.

Caught it on opening night. I enjoyed it, but the format was a little confusing at first.

I think Pacino and De Niro made this film. If it had starred, say, Keifer Sutherland and Will Smith, it just wouldn't have packed the same punch. I'd probably say the leads are the only reason to see this movie,

Couldn't agree more and I think De Niro had the stronger performance. But both were good.

since the mystery doesn't give you any clues to lead up to the reveal, .

Well this was one of those rare occaisons that I figured out early on "the reveal" although I didn't quite get all the details right.

In the original script it was a veteran cop-young cop pairing. I wonder if that would've changed the dynamic and make the reveal more sensible.

Well, Pacino's character does idolize DeNiro's character in the film and learned a lot from him.

The movie was average, and I thought the ending was "arbitrary," "contrived," "deus ex machina," but the presence of DeNiro, Pacino, and Gugino more than made up for its obvious "been there/done that" flaws.

2-stars for film
3-stars for DeNiro & Pacino

P.S. - The name dropping of the cast's previous films, such as DeNiro & Pacino mentioning the "Rambo killing" to Dennehy, and another character saying to DeNiro about "15 minutues of fame being up," not to mention actually getting that Russian actor from "15 Minutes" to appear in this film was a real boon, too.

Saw it at an advanced screenin' last Wendesday, wasn't impressed at all. Great stars, good support, gawd awful script & a twist that can be seen miles away.

Ah, well...maybe next time De Niro & Pacino work together, it'll be better.

Really? I figured out the twist about halfway through the movie. They had clues but they were kind of hidden (whether that was intentional or poor film-making, who knows).

Saw it for free (thanks, Best Buy). I thought it was nearly worthless until the twist ending, which I completely did not see coming. So it kind of redeemed the film for me, though I'd still call it "average".

Actually, not only was there the incident that started it all, but if you watch the eyes of the victim, you can tall how tall the killer is long before it's revealed.

It was like The Sixth Sense in that plenty was there, but you just didn't notice it until after the twist was revealed.
