Rifftrax soon to take on the worst movie ever made....

I'd rather sit through an unMSTed Manos than an unMSTed "Red Zone Cuba" any day. Or any other Coleman Francis movie, for that matter. They may not be as infamous, but they are many times more incoherent and unpleasant.

Flag on the moon. How did it get there?

On topic, a Rifftrax Manos could be interesting, but I'd rather have them do movies no related riffing project has tackled before. Like last year when they did "Crater Lake Monster" and "The Galaxy Invader". Hopefully we'll get more like that this year too.

To anyone who would doubt Manos' standing as the worst film ever made, I dare you to watch it without the riffing. I lasted less than 20 minutes. If I'd tried to watch it any longer I'd have ended up ripping my own eyeballs out of my skull.

Oh My God how bad it is, you can't watch it by it's self, you need robot sidekicks for support. The best thing to come out of Manos? When Torgo the White took TV's Frank into the west.

I miss TV's Frank.

Cooleddie - the new temporary moderator. Be warned ... when gives warnings it will break warning utility, well that happened last time with a temporary moderator. :p

And never heard of Manos.

Well, not knowing about or having seen MANOS probably means you'll have a longer lifespan than those of us who are familiar with the film. If you watch it? Watch the MST3K version. And even then you'll probably come down with explosive diarrhea.

Just sayin'.

Indeed. As bad as Battlefield Earth (and again, Birdemic or The Room) might be it at least had craft behind it and even something of an actual, published, story it was based on. It wasn't made entirely competently, sure, but it's at least somewhat "made."

I'd rather watch an un-riffed BE (or Birdemic or The Room) than an un-riffed "Manos", hell even the Joel&TB riffed version of Manos is hard to watch sometimes.

Torgo's theme music makes it all worth it, though.

Well...maybe not. But at least you die smiling.

So which is worse, as far as the original film goes: Manos or Space Mutiny?

And which MST3K version is funnier?

Space Mutiny is the "better" movie. It's inept and has an unlikeable cast (mostly the female lead, the male lead is.... alright) but like I said above when comparing Manos to other "bad movies" at least Space Mutiny shows an ounce or two of competency and "craft" to it. Yes it's not well made but you can at least tell those behind the camera were "trying" on some level.

I'd also say Space Mutiny is a better riff mostly because there's more going on in the movie to snark on, more cheese and because I prefer Mike over Joel and Bill over Trace for Crow.

Manos has none of that there's no skill or craft behind the making of the movie on any level. Not cinematography, not lighting, not casting or directing, not in dialogue, and certainly not in sound mixing. ;) (Probably the biggest hint the filma-makers had no clue in what they were doing is when we see a clapper-board in a shot... something that's pointless to use in conjunction with a camera that can't record sound!)

The only thing Manos might have going for it is in story concept which has an ounce or two of merit behind it and, really, is a mix of pretty standard horror movie tropes we see today.

But other than maybe story and I might even say that the actor (and voice actor) for Torgo at least "tired" Manos has nothing going for it when it comes to film-making. Purely from a production standpoint it's "The Worst Movie Ever Made" but it's such a bad movie it's possible to "watch" it (but only to make fun of it.) MST3K did have plenty of other movies that were possibly worse on watchability -standalone or even with the riffing- ("Incredibly Strange Creatures..." comes to mind) but purely on the craft of film-making Manos is one of the worst I've seen.

LASERBLAST is another truly horrific film that you need MST3K riffing to endure, but even it had an artistic vision behind it...as incompetently executed as it may have been. And the little stop-motion puppet aliens are actually kinda adorable, if stupid as hell.

"Is there a point to your little call, sir?"

Yeah definitely, Red Zone Cuba is my pick for the worst film ever made. There's a level of incompetence to it that has to be seen to be believed.

If we're limiting the pool to films featured on MST, I think Beast of Yucca Flats takes that title by virtue of being just as bad as RZC in every area while also being utterly incomprehensible. Cuba at least has a plot you can kind of follow. Events occur in it, and lead in to other events. Yucca Flats meanders for an hour without doing anything, and it has that nonstop, surreal voice-over that narrates what the characters are saying to each other.

But if we can look outside MST3K for worst movie material, I think "Birdemic" might be worse. I saw about 15 minutes of it once, and it's absolutely unwatchable. It contains every filmmaking failing known to man and invents a few new ones. Example:

On a purely technical level, it's difficult to lay your eyes on for more than few moments. The audio and video aren't just bad in that Manos way, where it's muffled and poorly lit (respectively) but consistently so; it's bad in different ways with each shot, depending on when they filmed the takes and who was working the camera. The contrast shifts, the white balance changes; sometimes the audio is clear but tinny, other times muffled and overlaid with a background buzz. And it'll shift back and forth between these with every edit. Plus the actors all leave little pauses between before they speak, obviously awaiting their cue to talk after the other actors finish. It's just horrible.

THE JERKY BOYS MOVIE.

How Alan Arkin didn't slit his own wrists 24 hours into filming that gargantuan piece of shit I'll never know. That movie makes MANNEQUIN look like HAMLET. I've rarely in my life seen a movie that atrociously bad on almost every level. The "acting" is abysmal...even from Arkin, who must have been doing blow(or blowing someone) to get into this so-called film. And the Jerky Boys' prank calls are about as funny as sitting on a container of thumbtacks. Ugh.

Imagine the JACKASS movies if they were filmed by a hyperactive spider monkey and edited by a blind man. Then subtract any and all laughter. Then you're coming close to THE JERKY BOYS MOVIE. The real reason the terrorists hate us.

I'll have to watch that episode again.

On Birdemic:

You have to watch the whole thing, do it with a group of friends and just riff on it it's wildly fun. Or you can do the Rifftrax on it as well.

Ok, here's one for you guys:

The Starfighters, which is pretty much 90 minutes of aircraft porn.
