Rifftrax soon to take on the worst movie ever made....

Yes... it's time.

While the first time around Kevin, Joel and Trace barely got out of it alive it's time for the crew of Rifftrax to take it on again.

What more can be said?

What more can be done?

How will Mike and Bill survive the riffing?

Coming soon from Rifftrax:

The whole original movie is up on YouTube.

Personally I still think the worst one I sat through was "Nightfall" (1988) with David Birney.... maybe because I actually paid to see it.

The MST3K version was also recently re-released and included a DVD of the original version of the movie. There's discussion on the Rifftrax boards on how this riff is going to be done, if it's going to be released as a VOD, a traditional RT you play along with the DVD unedited version, or a RT played along with a soon-to-be-released "remastered" version of the movie coming to BD.

I'm kinda hoping they'll do it as a live event. They haven't done one of those in a while, and they're always really fun to go to.

Without the MST3K riffing it's impossible to get through MANOS. I've tried. I have a tolerance for some pretty awful TV shows and films, but MANOS occupies a special place in the pantheon of crappy movies. Even laughing at Torgo doesn't get me through that stinkburger. To paraphrase the Joshua war computer in WARGAMES: "The only way to enjoy the film is not to watch."

Doing it as a live event would be awesome.

The worst movie ever made? Worse than Birdemic or The Room?

I'd say so. As bad as Birdemic and The Room are they at least have an ounce or two of competency behind them in being made. For all of its flaws in the story and the acting The Room at least has an ounce or two of "art" and "craft" to the way it was made. (Even if it was poor examples of these things.) It also had something of a story to tell. (Even if cliched.)

Same with Birdemic, it was severely limited by the technology used to make it, the competency (and ego) of the filmmaker and the inexperience of the actor (mostly the male lead, I think the girl actually didn't do too bad) but at least it had "something" of a craft to it and "something" of a story to tell even if the execution was poor.

Both movies I'd argue are "better" simply because my buddy and I were able to sit down and watch them and riff it by ourselves.

"Manos" on the other hand... There's no craft or "art" to it. There's little to no attempt by the "actors" to try and do anything and there's also pretty much no discernible story. It also fails at setting it's mood (the light jazz hardly jives with the "horror" mood it wants to set.) and creating any threat behind The Master and Torgo (the movie's "monster.") Hell, the entire opening 10 minutes or so of the movie is just the main character(s) driving around in a car looking at scenery!

The only thing I might be able to "credit" Manos with is that I think the intended "story" behind it has an ounce or two of merit. There's plenty of potential in a "horror" story about a family trapped at house occupied by a cultist looking to acquire a new damned/undead bride. But overall the movie is just junk, the 30-second silent camera, the dubbed in voices (of which they only had a couple male actors and one female actor to do all of the voices), the jazzy sound-track, the limitations they obviously had in how they could light and shoot scenes, all of it is crap. It's so bad Ed Wood would shake his head at it.

As crap as "The Room" and "Birdemic" are at least they were somewhat "made" with an ounce or two of competency behind them that is held back only by lack of experience and lack of resources.

I've never even heard of Manos.

Never heard of Manos. I was assuming Plan 9 From Outer Space, though for my money the worst movie I've ever encountered has to be "Things" (for those whooshing off to Google, it's the one that features Amber Lynn the porn star in a "starring" role as a news reporter). Though Moment by Moment (the 1970s love film starring John Travolta and Lily Tomlin. No you did not hallucinate that) is quite possibly even worse.
