ridiculously hard NES games

You could... get turtles back? Yeah, don't think I knew about that. I didn't use Nintendo Power or game guides, I always felt more satisfaction getting through a game without help. Looking back I think that maybe I shouldn't have ignored that some of the games just plain weren't fair, and I deserved a little help here and there. Oh well.

Yeah the difference these days with games is that you not only have instruction booklets larger then two pages, tool-tips and in-game hint balloons, but also tutorials, the internet, FAQ's, cheats, hacks, etc.

Everything is pretty well spoon fed to you these days.

Growing up, I remember getting ET for the Atari..... didn't come with anything explaining wtf you're supposed to do in the game and took my brother and I years to figure out how to play the damn thing right, until he fell down the right hole and noticed there was something you're supposed to be collecting (chunks of the phone to call home)

Back then the only way people figured out the games was through trial and error and brainstorming with your friends..... as if the original game designers were kidnapped and dumped in a river somewhere shortly after their game was released and nobody knew anything about it.

I always thought the 1991 Addams Family game was really hard. I never did beat that game. :shifty:

The first TMNT was really tough near the end. I could barely make it through the Technodrome and by the time I got to Shredder, I was so weak I'd only last a few seconds. Never beat it.

I had a copy of AF too, Praetor, and never did get very far in it. There was certainly a lot of stuff that could injure you too easily, particularly up on the roof, and it seemed like you had to wander around trying to find items or family members that were difficult to reach.

Yeah, exactly. That damn freezer and furnace annoyed the crap out of me, and they hid some of the more secret areas so well that you would make it through the annoyingly hard areas, then not have anywhere else to go. Or, at least that's what kept happening to me. :shifty:

I found the secret river, but couldn't get through the door. That's about as far as I got in that direction. I also think it would have been nice to have more uses of Thing, or to be able to find him more than once, as the mere three uses is far too little (Thing surrounds you and temporarily protects you from harm).
