I read that Ricky Gervais turned down a role in the new movie. What role could it have been? I don't think it was Scotty; he seems too old for the part.

Well thank god he's got some sense even if the casting people are crazy. That would have been awful!

There are any number of minor roles that would have been good for cameos. An instructor perhaps. Or someone in San Fran who looks off in the distance and says, "Oh shit, there's a big energy beam cutting into the landscape off in the distance."
