It can be argued that he played a huge role in "saving" Star Trek.

If TWOK hadn't been as successful as it was, the franchise could have died then and there.

If Mr. Montalban had not chosen to play the role of Khan once more, it is very possible that the second Star Trek film wouldn't nearly have been as successful as it was.

I believe that all fans of Star Trek owe Ricardo Montalban their thanks.

I don't like how that article didn't mention TWOK.

TGTheodore's link has a longer story which mentiones Wrath of Khan, but this just goes to illustrate that Montalban's career was so much more than one scenery-chewing villain — he had scores of stage, film and TV appearances over the decades, he was active in the Latino community, he was a devoted husband and father... really an outstanding role model. It seems that there's too few people like him today.

So true, if it wasn't for Ricardo Montalban excellent portrayal of Khan, there would not have been an ST III and above. Everyone owes him a debt of gratitude. RIP

He was great in "The Naked Gun" - guy had a great sense of humour whenever I saw him being interviewed as well. RIP.

I will miss Ricardo Montal-KHAN.

He was a great character actor. Fine Corinthian (A place not known for cattle raising -- which is where leather comes from) leather will never be the same.

RIP, Mr. Montalban...and my condolences to your family on Ceti Alpha V and here on planet Terra!

I could not agree more. He was the greatest Trek villain of all time and a great actor. He will be missed.
