Ricardo Montalban dies

RIP Ricardo Mon-Tal-Ban!
I'm fortunate to have seen him share the stage with Shatner at a Trek convention about 7 years ago. He stood up from his wheelchair...on his own...to accept the extended applause. A very gracious man who seemed to not forget that his success was due in large part to his fans.
BTW, I am also peeved at how the media seems to be treating his passing as a footnote.

"Oh, I have given you no word to keep, Admiral. In my opinion, you simply have no other choice..."

Rest in peace...

i'm a lot older than most so I remember falling in love with this man long before Khan, who to me is still the best villain Star Trek ever produced! Hell he may be one of the more intelligently evil villains in any genre!

Mr. Montalban always showed class and style and after reading his contributions to furthering and creating opportunities for Latinos in the film industry I am more in awe of him. He did it quietly and with dignity, without rebel rousing or the self serving posturing of so many actor/activist today who don’t seem to accomplish anything but photo ops.

He led by example.

A devotedly religious man married to the same woman until her death in 2007, 63 years of marriage in an industry that appears to be famous for its disposable relationships they stood with few. Old world class and charm, courtly and gracious with a keen wit and sharp mind to go with his good looks.

Ahhhh…they don’t make them like this much anymore. Another childhood crush gone but held in my memory fondly.

Already did - this system tends to get away from one if you are not careful especially with cut/paste.

May Heaven's Gates be trimmed in Corinthian Leather. Here comes De Plane!

Fortunately, while none of the obituaries I've read reported his Star Trek connection, a local radio station here played a Ricardo Montalban montage which included "KHAAAAAAAANNNNN!" :guffaw:

I will miss Ricardo Montal-KHAN.

He was a great character actor. Fine Corinthian (A place not known for cattle raising -- which is where leather comes from) leather will never be the same.

RIP, Mr. Montalban...and my condolences to your family on Ceti Alpha V and here on planet Terra!

As Chekov (the man whose face you never forgot) might say: This is werry sad!

I wanted to be the first to make a remark about rich corinthian leather, and now you guys have stolen my thunder. After I've waited all these years. Now I really am sad.

OMG.

Such a gracious, lovely and talented man.

Patrick McGoohan, Majel Roddenberry and Now Ricardo Montalban. :(

RIP, you will be missed.

One of the best Trek performances in Space Seed. And of course the sequel, TWOK.

A sad day...

Again.

R.I.P. and Godspeed.

:(

A class act in the business if there's ever been one. Charming, intelligent and kind to just about everyone. He'll be sorely missed.

I'm guessing we'll see a tribute novel to Khan and Montalban come from an author like Greg Cox. He's already written three about Khan and the Eugenics Wars, but there's always fodder for a fourth.
