Rey and the sad devolution of the female character

In some respects, Harrison Ford is more like Han Solo that he'd care to admit. He'd much rather be like Indiana Jones.

I just thought of another way in which Rey shows up Luke. When Luke left his training, against the advice of Yoda and Obi-Wan, the result was getting his ass handed to him by Vader and losing a hand. He played no part in rescuing Han and Leia. In fact, Leia ended up needing to go back to rescue him.

On the other hand, Rey leaving her "training" with Luke led to the death of Snoke, followed by her rescuing all of the surviving rebels on Crait.

She had to survive on a planet trying to kill her. Luke had a support system, Rey didn't. She either fought hard, or she starved and died. She spent most of her life doing exactly that.

Rey played no part in killing Snoke other than being a convenient distraction. She also had a much harder life of survival than Luke had.

This fits with what I said about her being like a person who'd grown up on Salusa Secundus and having survived all it had thrown at her, becoming tougher in the process. But people don't want to see that about her.

This is one of those instances when the original VFX more clearly indicate what's happening.

Takes me back to an interview I saw with a World War 2 pilot. He had a lot of combat experience from the Battle Of Britain onwards, but nothing prepared him for his first encounter with intercepting a V-1 flying bomb. He'd shot down lots of planes before, but he'd never had one explode with such force the shockwave almost stopped his plane dead in the air.

His encounter was one of the reasons they started to fly next to the things then use their wings to tip them over instead of shooting them.

Which respects? I only know Harrison loathed Han and wanted him killed off during the OT's run, which didn't happen so he got his wish a few decades later. Did he ever really like the character or franchise? To him, it was a role. He probably didn't expect it to get so big.

But most of the rebels were killed in Rey's time while most were saved in Luke's.

And that's where the animated short doesn't need to change anything this time. Leia from the start had genuine talents and saving the men - people in a team saving each other. Nobody in 1980 was screaming about Luke needing to be saved - or the franchise being ruiiiiiined because Luke was written as an impetuous teenager or anything else...
