Rewatching with the wife

My wife is a sci fi fan but not super experienced. Since we've been together we've done two watchthroughs of BSG, two of Farscape, one (with a few holes) of DS9, one (with a few more holes) of TNG, 1.5 of Firefly and a bunch of other stuff. She used to watch Voyager regularly and wanted to watch it.

We watched the first three episodes earlier in the year and I actually liked them. We've gone through the first season now and I remembered that Voyager actually started strong. They just didn't keep it up.

I forgot how much I liked Tuvok and Chakotay before he became Chuckles. Also, Roxann Dawson is a fantastic actress.

I'm sad now because we've hit Amelia Earhart, and pretty much all the drama is going to die. There's still Seska, and the Doctor isn't the whiny preacher yet, but I know that the Starfleet/Maquis tension has pretty much magically resolved. It's going to be a long time between now and "Scorpion".

^ I hope one day to find a partner who is as big a geek as I am too :bolian:

Voyager did have a good start, they set the premise up well and the characters had potential. Unfortunately, as you point out, they just don't keep it up and keep missing their mark.

The PTB lose focus on good solid characters like Tuvok and Torres in favour of cramming more of Seven and the EMH down our throats. Which is a shame as Seven's story was an interesting one, but she was far too overused and I just can't stand the Doctor anymore (he may even be more irritating than Neelix).

I'm doing the same with my husband who is a semi-geek. He likes the things I do but he's not interested in talking about them unless a particular episode happens an allegory for 'real life' situations'. I KNOW we'll have a lot to talk about when we get to Nothing Human.

He LIKES Voyager. He doesn't care about whether or not the ship is falling apart or if the Maquis are angry. We are in Season 5 and he's not upset that Seven is the focus of every other episode. As far as he's concerned it got better with each season. The things that we super geeks complain about he barely notices.

I should mention that while he watched it with me he was not really that big a fan of BSG although he loved DS9 (but I think that's mainly because of Sisko).

Sometimes I think he might well have been part of the intended audience as in a casual viewer and not a super fan.

My wife was a Voyager fan until we watched DS9 and then she didn't like it like she used t.
Then we have watched, stargate SG1, Atlantis, DS9, 3 seasons of VOY(we didn't like it) 9 episodes of Enterprise( same as voyager) Smallville, fringe, Agents of shield and Supergirl.
I'm very lucky with my wife :)

He really liked Stargate but I think that was because he was more of a fan of Richard Dean Anderson (he really liked McGiver). He liked Fringe but not Agents of Shield although he likes the Marvel movies. We haven't gotten into Supergirl yet but he has expressed interest.

I met the boyfriend of a friend a few months ago, my friend is a bit of a geek but his partner is a super geek. When we were having dinner in a restaurant a comment was made on a little thing (about Voyager I think it was), which launched a big discussion between me and him :)

Now if I could find a someone the combination of the two of them then I'd have my perfect man

Oh, the wife and I also watched all of Fringe, and we've got through Futurama thre times.

I hope I find someone who is as big a trek and sci fi fan as I am. I would love to actually rewatch trek with someone. I remember going to the theaters to see Best of Both Worlds and it was a really rewarding Experiance. I would love for one day it be a rewarding and intimate experience.

"Voyager" gets worse as it goes along?? Where does that notion come from?

I'm on season 4-- and I'd say apart from the David St. Hubbins/Clown episode, and the WW2 Holodeck 2-parter (way over the top)....Voyager is the most consistent show of Modern Trek! It's really well written and performed --it's perfect for Trekkers like me who just want an hour of creative escapism, and don't have time for nonsense like Bajoran religion (no offense to those who enjoy that level of Geek- I respect that).

Into Season 4, I can't see why Kes couldn't have stayed--here cute innocence is missed I think. Paris is becoming more cardboard with his quips.

I think it got a lot better in Season 4 but that doesn't always ring true for everyone.
