Rewatching Voyager

Remember

Now this is what I call a criminally underrated episode. I forgot how powerful this episode is and how much of a social commentary it delivered. I loved the concept of learning the truth through telepathy and the more you get into the Inarans story, the more gripping it becomes. Dawson was great here and it is interesting that she was used as the conduit from Corrinna. Maybe she would be the most angry and impacted of the crew, but it made sense in a way that Torres be the one who got the memories. Her outburst at the end towards Ja'Brill was really emotional and impactful, even though you know Voyager couldn't do anything about it. Still, to know that Janeway planted the seed in Torres to talk to the engineer and the engineer allowing Torres to share those memories made this episode that much more great. Everyone here was on the top of their game, and it's a shame this episode is not talked about. It's very timely and one of Voyager's best.

So far, Season 3 is off to a really nice start. And Future's End is coming up soon. Can't wait.

Very nice art as always. And yes i've never really watched many whole TV series over again, with some series the occasional epsiode bur Voyager is the only one I always come back to. Unfortunately no one I know except the wonderful people on here of course are really into Voyager they just go oh that one with the female Captain right yeah watched thst once or something (And I just facepalm mentally and think they don't know what they're missing out on). Wish I had friends like yours! I would love to do a marathon :). You know I don't think I've ever heard you mention it or me ever ask what is your full time favorite epsiode? One that you could just never get tired of?
Thanks. I'm glad you like these wallpapers. I know you're a follower on PINTEREST but if you like to see a new one every day, check out my thread at http://www.trekbbs.com/threads/star-trek-voyager-desktop-wallpapers.279007/.
At the moment I'm working on some TIMELESS wallpapers and will soon continue with FAIR HAVEN ones.

It's difficult to choose just one episode - after all we're talking about my favourite show. When I get asked this question, I always think of Kate Mulgrew, who's said more than once at conventions that this is like asking a parent who their favourite child is. Nevertheless, she often says DEATHWISH was her favourite one. I agree, it's really difficult to choose - like I've already mentioned I've always thought Voyager is high quality from CARETAKER to ENDGAME. No matter what episode I'm watching, I'm always enjoying it tremendously - with a few exceptions (see it would be much easier to say which are the ones that I don't like ). Also, I'm probably in the minority because for me there's no difference betwen the Kes years and the Seven of Nine years - I like both characters and I like most of the episodes in all seasons (however, since I'm gay I'm used to being in the minority, LOL! :nyah:) To me, it is strange when a person says they have started a rewatch so they started with Season 4 ...
If I absolutely had to choose something, I'd go for SCORPION. I've seen this (two-parter) episode about 200 times and can't get enough of it, LOL! It's an exciting story, there's the borg in it but most importantly Seven is introduced in it without Kes being kicked out - that's its biggest appeal to me. Tied for a close second place would be DEADLOCK and BLOOD FEVER and in the third place you'd probably find all the Tom-B'Elanna ones from later seasons, most importantly DRIVE.
What about you?

As for VOY friends, they are not very difficult to find in this part of the world. You know in Hungary, Star Trek is not very well known - not at all, actually. It's never been on any major TV channels - as far as I know, no science fictions series have - so most people have no idea what it is. Star Wars is very popular here, and with avid SW fans it's just impossible to convince them to start watching Star Trek.
However, there are always people who react to sci-fi like "Oh, I know Star Wars - it's for children". Now they are my chance to enter the stage. I say: "Really? Well let me show you some science fiction that's for adults and maybe you'll change your mind". Then they have an induction course in Voyager from me (it's literally like a lecture at university coming from an "expert") and half an hour later they just can't wait to start watching it. Most of them love it, in no small part due to the fact that they don't know the other Trek shows and so their minds are not full of expectations/prejudices. They usually embrace Voyager the way it is and enjoy it tremendously.
So yes, all of them are VOY fans mainly because of me but most of them are grateful for having introduced them to this show. Except for some girls who think that their boyfriends have become more interested in Voyager Sundays than in regular Sundays which they could spend with their girlfriends only, LOL :D. Although this happens very rarely because most of the time, the girlfreinds have also become fans of the show. The main character, after all, is a woman.

This one is undoubtedly my favourite B'Elanna episode, not counting the B'Elanna-Tom ones. The second one would be BARGE OF THE DEAD.
Season three is often dismissed by a lot of people as boring. I can't comprehend that - I think it's a beautiful season. I especially like the stories that'll take place in the Nekrit Expanse and like you said yourself, there's FUTURE'S END (and WORST CASE SCENARIO towards the end).

Sacred Ground

I agree with the head monk who looked like Louise Fletcher, this was meaningless. I get what they were going for, but it felt like they were going through hoops just to give a scientific explanation for everything. I didn't hate it, but I didn't like it either. It was just, mostly average. I will say though, Janeway's hair has been down a lot this season so far. It was almost like they were setting up a big development for her character in Future's End, but that's for that episode. ;)

I will indeed check out your thread :P And yes I remember that Kate Mulgrew qoute well, I so throughly enjoy watching Voyager conventions they have so much fun! I just wish one day I could go to one but they're mostly in America.

And right it's so hard to choose? So many amazing episodes all for different people. And same I must also be in the minority as well because I enjoy lots of episodes from all seasons, people don't see how instrumental Kes was to the doctors development, and often I really enjoy her input, I must say her last epsiode was rushed however. Then Seven came in and it was a totally different person from the compassionate Kes ,she came in a stern, often rude and as an extremely clever individual. Both are great and each side of the show (Kes/Seven) has its own merits that are defenitly worth watching. And in the UK you wouldn't be in much of a minority haha xD I think the stat is 1/3 people are part of LGBTQ+++ community , I cant say the same for your country however as it varies around the world.

My favorite episode... difficult like you say, I wouldn't call my myself a normal Voyager fan I often like some different episodes like I throughly enjoy The Void, tinker tenor doctor spy, (the other doctor episode where the Doctor has to pretend to be in command I'm so bad at names!), Scorpion as you said, think tank and year of hell I find Is an action packed two parter. But overall I think your tied second place Deadlock is my absolute favorite! Just an episode I could watch over and over a simply amazing performance by Mulgrew. And right really easy to think of some of the worse episodes mostly some very dodgy Harry Kim stories although honourable mention for his performance in The Thaw and The Chute.

Haha I wish I could convince some of my friends to watch it they say oh it's too old it's rubbish. Which is sad :( they're mis sing out. And haha I bet you aren't very popular with the ladies of the guys(who don't like it) that you tell about Voyager loool. I can imagine you giving them that lecture about how amazing it is haha.

And finally I've just checked on netflix and it was removed last year so it's no longer on there :( Anyway know any other options on how to watch it or I may have to buy the full boxset which at the age of 16 may be quite expensive for me haha xD

You all are so positive here that I am hesitant to speak up but Remember is not a favorite of mine but not because there is anything intrinsically wrong with it. Try as I might I just cannot get into stories where a character lives someone else's life or where the majority of the episode takes place in a dream. That includes Barge of the dead. Once again they might be well written and well acted...it's just the subject matter doesn't appeal to me.
B'Lelanna the character I like...her episodes not so much. It's quite frustrating.

No as far as I'm concerned any justified opinion is appreciated, we all enjoy different episodes for different reasons. And for your reason you couldn't get into this one which Is fine xD.

This was the first episode Robbie McNeil directed and he looks back on it fondly but I think if someone were to take a fan poll 'Someone to Watch Over Me' would probably be the top favorite McNeil directed episode.

There are practically no conventions in this part of the world, although Q was here in Budapest last year. But I'm not really into conventions - the embarrassment of some actors caused by fans' stupid questions is pretty off-putting. I once went to one where Picard was the honorary guest and decided not to go to any more.

Kes was kind and gentle, Seven added conflict to the show - like you said both have their own merits. I don't prefer either of them, they're both great in my book. I like all the ten main VOY characters, but none as much as the incomparable Captain Kathryn Janeway, closely followed by Thomas Eugene Paris :adore::adore::adore:, which means that I normally stay neutral in the Kes-Seven debate.
And in the UK you wouldn't be in much of a minority haha xD I think the stat is 1/3 people are part of LGBTQ+++ community , I cant say the same for your country however as it varies around the world.
Thanks for the statistics - that's a bit reassuring to know (I'm not sure, however, if it is true - but anyway). I'm sure that in Hungary there are a lot of gay people, too. However, most of them are still in the closet and that makes it a little difficult to be gay over here.
(the other doctor episode where the Doctor has to pretend to be in command I'm so bad at names!),
WORKFORCE, Season 7 two-parter
But overall I think your tied second place Deadlock is my absolute favorite! Just an episode I could watch over and over a simply amazing performance by Mulgrew.
Janeway/Mulgrew was absolutely in command of everything on that episode, Voyager, crew, acting, etc. Normally, when someone who doesn't know Voyager asks me to recommend a random episode, I say they should try DEADLOCK. If they find they like it, then there's a chance they'll like the rest of the show as well.

Haha I wish I could convince some of my friends to watch it they say oh it's too old it's rubbish. Which is sad :( they're mis sing out. My God, now I definitely know that I am old ...:lol::lol:. In any case, you and your friends are the next generation so it's understandable if some of them think this show is old. It's actually very nice to see that the show has fans among young people like you. And yes, they don't know what they're missing out on but let that be their problem. Just carry on watching Voyager - remember, it's Janeway or no way ... :)

You all are so positive here that I am hesitant to speak up

stardream, I agree with Archimago, there's nothing wrong with not liking an episode. I think the problems start when some people do nothing else on these fora but keep bashing the show with no real justification and mainly in an uncivilized tone of voice. I personally don't like FURY but it's not like I keep saying all the time that this episode sucks on multiple levels without giving any justification.
E.g. I disagree with tomalak301 when he says

because I really like this episode but I respect his opinion and I guess this is how he feels about mine. We don't have to agree on everything all the time but differences of opinion can be expressed in a civilized manner and I think this thread is a positive proof of this.
Finally, I've never noticed this:

, which, again, proves that even though we don't agree on the episode entirely, there are overlappings in our opinions (does that make sense in English?). I am gay, I can't judge it but to me Janeway embodies female beauty in its perfection on this episode, which is further underlined by Mulgrew's subtle performance:

Yeah I must say there are shocking questions out there at conventions and it really annoys me when people talk for like 30 minutes about how they love them. Well obviously!? Why would you be there asking a question 20 years later if you didn't.

Right on with that Janeway being the women of the hour even in real life I think she inspirational chrasmatic and really rather funny. I'm not always neutral on seven and Kes as I do think Kes has a few lackluster episodes but genuinely I think they are both skilled actors :)

I can't talk for the accuracy of my statistic it's certainly what they advertise I imagine they are rounding up xD But it is certainly true that gay rights have cone on leaps and bounds across MOST developing countries (looks at America..) meaning people feel far more comfortable coming out into the open.

Your wallpaper for deadlock is the two Janeway's striking a dramatic pose right? I remember really liking it :D

Absolutely I hope one day I will meet with a fan of Voyager and we can go on a binge watching sessions xD bang on with Janeway or no way haha.

And yep absolutely we all have different opinions on episodes if we didn't it would be interesting haha! :) For your question of English I would say "Even though we don't agree entirely on the epsiode there are certain issues/points where our opinions are alike." Your way however would most likely make sense to an English person you know it's a hard sentance to phrase xD Im still not 100% happy with what I came up with.

Wow those are very nice sacred ground desktops. :techman:
Thanks. The next episode I have wallpapers for will be BLOOD FEVER.

Actually, this doesn't bother me as much as when people start asking the actors about some minor (totally insignificant) details that the actor has no idea about. Then some of them like to confront the actors with loopholes in the story, which, needless to say, is not the actor's fault and which you can't change now anyway. It's actually lucky that only actors take part in these conventions and not producers/directors because fans would crucify them.

Thanks. Yes, there are quite a few of those - the pink and grey one is a particular favourite of mine. However, of the wallpapers for that episode, my number one choice would be the one with Hogan in the middle. I like making stuff with minor characters, like Seska, the borg queen, Hogan, Samantha and Naomi Wildman, Icheb, Q, Carey, Troi, Barclay, Paris (admiral) and most importantly Vorik ...

Hey, I'm really grateful for this. Most English-speaking people won't help you with your English no matter how hard you ask them. Beg them, actually. They all seem to think that they offend me if they correct me when in reality this is the way to learn things you didn't know. Interestingly enough, those very same people are not hesitant to correct me if I make a factual error, say, with a year number in history. Strange.
So thanks once again and please feel free to do so any time I indicate I'm not sure of what I'm saying.

Finally, since we talked so much about Kes and Seven, here are two wallpapers. I hope you (you plural) like them:

Future's End

Much like Basics, I'm going to talk about this as if it was one episode. I've always loved this episode a lot. We get to see the crew interact with Present Day LA and Ed Begley Jr. was great as the egotist Henry Starling. In fact, in terms of two part villains, I would rank Starling up there. He didn't know what he was doing but that didn't stop him from achieving his goal. He also pulled a Jellico and really enhanced Voyager through The Doctor's Mobile Emitter, much like Jellico told Troi to put on a Starfleet uniform. I'm so glad the Doctor finally got the emitter in this episode mainly because he couldn't be stuck in sickbay forever and this was about a quarter of the way through season 3.

The other guest star was Sarah Silverman as Rain Robinson, and I think this is the best I've ever seen Silverman in anything. Does anyone remember her show that was on comedy central years ago? I watched some of that show mainly because I thought it was going to be the same Sarah Silverman that was in Voyager. What I got was a vulger, disgusting, and probably terrible cast show and I realized how much I didn't like her in "Normal" life. Still though, she was great here, and she and Tom had great chemistry together. I know it's a little corny, but I loved the Freakasauras line.

Watching this episode, I was wondering something regarding the Eugenics Wars and a possible explaination for why they didn't happen. Could one possible explanation be that when Starling stole the time ship in 1967, that changed the timeline, and when the time ship was destroyed, it restored those events? Maybe the Eugenics Wars did happen. Also, I thought I read somewhere that they didn't happen every where. You know LA at the time. Heck, there really hasn't been much of a change from how we dress back then to how we dress now. I loved 90s fashion.

This episode did also have a minor fault. I thought the trip to Arizona was kind of a waste of time and the conspiracy nuts detracted from the overall story. Why were they there, exactly? It just seemed to pad the episode and take away from all the cool stuff that was happening, even though it did give us more Rain/Tom Bonding time.

During the last episode I made a comment about how Janeway's hair seemed to be down more leading up to Future's End. The reason why is because this episode did one other thing that changed the "look" of the series other than the Doctor's emitter. We are introduced to my favorite Janeway hair style in this episode, the pony tail look. Maybe it symbolized we were getting a more action Janeway in the upcoming episodes, like Macrocosm with Janeway doing Die Hard, or Worst Case Scenario, or even Scorpion, but whenever I think of Janeway, I always go back to the pony tail. It's a shame it was short lived though, but we did get a season out of it so, hooray for that.

Overall though, Future's End is some of the best of Voyager. When I started this rewatch there were a few episodes I was looking forward to seeing again, and Future's End was one of them. The other is Scorpion, but I'll talk about the brilliance of that episode when we get to it. Until then, if you're looking for an episode or two to watch of Voyager and you have 90 minutes to kill, watch Future's End. It will take you back to the decade of roller blades, tying shirts around the waist, and that "far out" attitude. And it's a bunch of fun.

Thanks. The next episode I have wallpapers for will be BLOOD FEVER.

I'm sorry these posters are amazing! The seven one is like pure joy, into surprise, into the I just got bested by Janeway look, into you did not just touch my astrometric's lab right into I literally can't beileve how stupid you are. Haha that's great!! I must say I wish they had Kes' hair like it is in the 4th photo the whole time, she looks great there.

Very true xD the actors can't fix the stories and yeah I understand how it would annoy you when the ask about things like that. :P

And absolutely no problem, people don't realise how lucky they are. In the UK every time we go abroad everyone speaks our language fluently and we have no problems. People make such an effort to learn English I think the least we can do is give something back to people. And with that I have one more tip because you were writing a post you had to specify the sort of you, that you used, because it could've been interpreted you were just talking to me if you didn't say it was plural. A very English thing to do would be to say "you guys". Some very authentic English there. Feel free to correct me as well, I make plenty of spelling mistakes xD And yes I get your point there English people like to correct you on everything other than the things you actually want help with.... :(

And sorry for our rantings Tomalak, I rather enjoy your reviews of each episode reminds me of each one, and some of the one's I'm yet to watch. And you get me and Mr Paris chtting over the top xD haha

Thanks.

I prefer her with short hair - but each to his own. The fourth photo comes from the episode BEFORE AND AFTER.

I'll keep that in mind, as Seven would have it :).

:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:
I've often read this in different comments but since I live an ocean and a continent away from the US (plus English is not my mother tongue), I have no idea what show you might be talking about. Any chance of a YouTube link?
Watching this episode, I was wondering something regarding the Eugenics Wars
What are they? Are they something that come up in other Trek shows?
We are introduced to my favorite Janeway hair style in this episode, the pony tail look.
I prefer the long bob - but honestly, I think everything suits her. As for the outfits, I prefer Janeway in white clothes, which she wears in REMEMBER, FUTURE'S END, MORTAL COIl and THE KILLING GAME:

Overall though, Future's End is some of the best of Voyager.
Agreed. Everybody loves Rapper Tuvok, :guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:!

This might help

The Eugenics Wars produced Khan Noonian Signh. I guess you haven't watched the Original series?

Oh, so this was an actual film series? I thought she had hosted a talk show or something similar on television.

I saw the first season (a long time ago) and some episodes here and there. I mostly have no idea what it is about. It's such an old series, I find it difficult to watch. You know ... a character takes five seconds just to look up, then another ten seconds before he answers a question. Too slow for my taste. There was one episode, though, that I liked. It was about Spock and was very similar to Voyager's BLOOD FEVER.
BTW, is this the same Khan who was played by Benedict Cumberbatch in the last ST feature film? I don't remember anything being mentioned about these Eugenics there. Or am I mixing things up?

@Thomas Eugene

Have you seen the movies, specifically Wrath of Khan? I would suggest watching that and your questions will be answered.

As for cumberbatch, he played an interpretation of Khan.

Everything is so slow right... so on the Sci fi channel in the UK all 6 original star trek films were on so I was like I'll record them and watch them. I watched number 1 and actually fell asleep half way through... it was soo boring like when they first showed you the ship it literally took you round the outside for a good 5 minutes so slowly with nothing else happeneing. After the torturous first movie o decided no more xD

I took your advice and watched the second movie with Khan. It must be me but I didn't get any wiser. Where were there any wars mentioned in the first place? And these eugenics in particular? I'm sorry but ... can you tell me what's going on?

Without wishing to become too repetitive, I've just watched the second movie and felt exactly the same way. It was very slow and hardly anything happened.
The only good thing was that I think I understand the last ST movie with Benedict et al a bit better. Otherwise it was just tedium. It's strange because Voyager is often not exactly action-packed, either and I still love every second of it. It must be the characters and all that love that there is among them, I guess.
