Rewatching TERMINATOR 4 SALVATION

One thing I simply dont understand in T4 is that John Connor seems to have no idea what a T-800 looks like, is made from, et al. Yet in every other way he seems to have the experiences of the JC from other films. What gives?

I don't follow. In the beginning of the film there's a whole scene centered around Connor recognizing the schematic of a T-800 under development years earlier than expected on the Skynet facility's computer, with the nameless redshirt saying "that's the one you told us about" or something. There's no indication that he doesn't recognize T-800s in the film.

If you're talking about him not recognizing Marcus however, that's because Marcus was something he'd never encountered before; a metal endoskeleton built over and connected to existing human internal organs rather than simply human skin coated over a metal endoskeleton like the T-800.

I found it hard to get into, I recognized too many landmarks (the big bridge is in Taos, N.M. and it was my great uncle's last construction project before he died, and the river where Connor lets Marcus go is the Rio Grande I think a bit south of Albuquerque)

After reading this thread, I dl'd it last night and rewatched it.

Yep...it's still a terribly made film. Just...bad.

This was suppose to be the first film in a second trilogy, but all hope for that is lost since the terminator rights were recenty sold.

Thanks for the clarification, Locutus. I certainly think all of this could have been made clearer and more resonant in the film.

T'Baio, would you agree that the stuff about the actual Terminators is quite good, though? Agreed about rest of film.

I think the film is fantastic on an aesthetic level. Make fun of McG all you want, the guy has an incredible eye. The sequence in the beginning that is an illusory one shot, where Connor exits the Skynet base, gets on the chopper, the chopper is shot down and it rolls and then he exits and is attacked by the Terminator half is fantastic. The design of the film is great. The cruder rubber skinned T-600's look great. I think the acting all around is fine. I just think the script sucks balls.

David Fincher. He and Sorkin are currently drafting The Social Network II: The Inception of Skynet; Armie Hammer will star as the twin T-800s.
